so being a great partner on the pickle ball court means that you do all the little things right yeah getting those big highlight Rael shots a couple times a game is great but if you want to be that person that everybody wants to play with because you put you and your partner in consistently winning positions time and time again and stick around and I'll show you exactly how to do it so I have this saying that I like to use a lot in my lessons and it goes something like this it says if you're not doing something do something and so basically what that means is if you're not the one that's actually hitting the shot you have nothing to do at that time so use that time wisely and find a better position on the court rather than just stand and watch your opponent hit figure out how you can help out by finding a better spot so in today's video we're going to take that mindset and apply it to one of the most difficult situations we face in pickle ball and I'm going to teach you how to protect your partner and help you guys get to the net more effectively okay so first let's go over what this overall concept is okay so I call it either moving without the ball or balancing the cord so the same thing I just have two different names for it basically what it is is if our opponent hit a ball to us and I see that the ball is not coming to me it's going to my partner I'm going to try to gather a lot of information where is my partner standing in the court where are my opponents what shot is my partner most likely to hit based on all that information while all that is unfolding I'm going to try to adjust my position to best balance out the Court the reason being is my partner has to be where the ball is so they don't have freedom to position themselves at a certain spot on the court they got to be where the ball takes them I don't have any role or responsibility I can be anywhere I want in the court so my job is to figure out where they are find where is my best spot on the court to balance them out and then once they hit then we can kind of move together to try to recover back so I want to take a quick second and ask you guys to please subscribe to the channel if you haven't yet it helps massively if you could like comment subscribe it all helps the algorithm helps get these videos out to more people which ultimately grows my channel which means I can make more of these videos which I love to do okay so let's talk some specifics now we're going to take that concept and we're going to apply it to our third shot drop transition game we're going to learn how to hopefully get to the kitchen line more effectively and protect our partner and make their job of hitting that third shot and getting up with us a lot easier okay so let's walk through this my partner and I maybe I just sered my partner and I are at the Baseline okay the ball gets returned back as soon as I see the ball is not coming to me again then I go into I'm not doing something I got to do something okay so I'm not hitting that means I'm free to move okay the exact movement that we're going to do roughly is we're going to try to get two steps in front of our partner so if my partner's right at the Baseline I'm going to try to get one to two steps in front of him I'm going to try to to shade one step to the middle and then I'm going to also open up my body a little bit so I can be watching them hit kind of see the whole Court of what's going on here okay so that's kind of step one that's the movement portion of it the second part to this which helps a lot is try to encourage your partner if they can to drop crossport so if they can drop this ball over in front of me first of all it's a slightly easier drop because you get a a little bit lower net and you get a longer distance to work with but if they can drop the ball cross in front of me it's going to help me protect them which you'll see here in a minute okay so they drop crosscourt I'm watching as soon as I see that ball comes off nice and low and I have an idea that it's going to be a good drop then I'm going to try to take another step or two forward okay so if I can get in this position with the ball in front of me I'm going to be able to still cover my line but the key here is my partner is still back there at the Baseline kind of recovering from their shot the key is is that I cut off the line of my opponent trying to attack the feet of my partner which is what most people are going to do on the fourth shot so if I was back here just kind of watching my partner's feet would be exposed they could roll that ball deep and probably keep us back if I can get in this position now to get to my partner's feet they have to come through me which means I could pick that ball off and maybe be aggressive with it or hit down on it okay so that's what I mean by protecting your partner by improving your position you're getting in a a position that is protecting your partner's feet allowing them to move forward knowing that the opponents can't attack them hey guys so I want to do a quick shout out to my sponsor Selkirk thank you for sponsoring these videos so I want to do a quick rundown on some of these paddles if you want power and spin this is a great paddle super maneuverable this is the power Power air check it out if you want the other end of the spectrum you want really good control feel and awesome spin we've got the Vanguard control this is my personal favorite because I I love to get good bite on the ball and then if you want something in between we've got the new amped Pro air which is awesome control little bit of Pop really good spin so we got something for everybody check it out and don't forget to use my code advv dascola and you'll get a free gift card with your purchase so one key thing to remember here is you're trying to get to this position early so again the ball gets hit I see it's not coming to me I'm trying to get here before my partner even hits the ball okay so if I can get here and get settled then I can be watching them hit and I can be kind of taking in information if they hit and I see them maybe off balance maybe they hit a high drop or they hit a por shot in some way I haven't committed anything yet I can still just drop back get low and now I can play some defense from here I haven't overcommitted in the court yet okay so this is a recent recck play session with myself Stefano Vern Carlos Dora and Deco bar and this is going to be three consecutive points where I'm going to demonstrate this effect in action so let's get this first one rolling you can see I'm serving here uh bottom of your screen serve goes over as soon as I see you can see as soon as I see the ball is coming to Stefan I'm starting to release like I said two steps forward hedging towards the middle a little bit watching him I see it come off his paddle and I I see that's pretty good so I'm going to move forward and I'm going to split right in front of the ball and now this is the important part by me being here I protect this ball going deep to Stefan again so you could see I am protecting this shot because if Carlos were to hit this shot right here it would go right past my forehand and I'd pick it off and i' put it away for a winner so Carlos can't hit this so what he's forced to do is go a little bit shallower in the court to keep it away from me and now that creates a really easy shot for Stefan rather than that ball being pressed back at his feet he gets to move forward hit a drop and now we're up at the kitchen line which is what we want okay we'll move past this point now we're going to the next one similar concept I'm still serving ball comes to me now so you can see Stefan doing the exact same thing hedging forward and middle watching me and now you can see pretty much almost the exact same position that I was in Reverse I drive to decal deal hits a pretty solid volley but Stefan's right there so you can see kind of the same thing de's trying to go to my feet so he's trying to go on this line but as he hits that Stefan's there to intercept it with the forehand and point for us okay continuing on still my serve one more time ball again goes to Stefon same thing in Reverse I'm hedging forward I'm hedging middle Stefan it's a great drop gets the ball to bounce because of my position again deck really can't do anything offensive so he's got to go behind me and again we're now in this point so three points in a row we're getting to the kitchen line getting in the point strictly because of of how well the off partner is positioning and helping it make that transition easier that's all I got for you today hope you enjoyed the video don't forget to grab your screenshot so next time you hit the court you have all of this information right at your fingertips
