Hello guys, how are you all? Welcome back to my channel. So today we are going to see what if Naruto was seduced by Predator Kusha and subscribe if you enjoy the video and also check the description. So let's begin the story. The forest was dark, illuminated only by the pale moonlight filtering through the canopy above. Narut Uzumaki ran through the underbrush, his breath [music] coming in ragged gasps, the scroll of ceiling clutched tightly against his chest. Behind him, he could hear Mizuki's voice calling out, dripping with false concern that made his skin crawl. Nar, just give me the scroll. You don't understand what you've done. But Naruto did understand. He understood that he'd been tricked, manipulated by a traitor who wanted to steal Konoha's secrets. Iraq sensei had made that perfectly clear before taking a giant shuriken to the back, protecting him. The memory of his teacher's blood made Naruto's grip on the scroll tighten even more. He burst into a clearing, skidding to a stop. The moon hung full and bright above, casting everything in silver light. [music] Naruto's eyes darted around, looking for an escape route, but Mizuki landed in front of him with a cruel smile on his face. End of the line, demon brat. Mizuki sneered, pulling out another massive shuriken. I'll take that scroll and your [music] life. Do you want to know why everyone in the village hates you? Why they look at you with such fear and disgust? Naruto's heart pounded. Part of him didn't want to know. Part of him had suspected there was a reason, something beyond just being an orphan or a troublemaker. 12 years ago, the fourth Hokag didn't kill the ninetailed fox. Mizuki continued, his voice rising with malicious glee. He sealed it. Sealed it inside a newborn baby. He sealed it inside you. You're the ninetailed fox. You're the monster that killed Araka's parents, that destroyed half the village. The words hit Nar like physical blows. His mind reeled. Memories flashing through his consciousness. The hateful stares. The whispers. The shopkeepers who refused to serve him. The parents who pulled their children away from him. It all made terrible, horrible sense. That's why you'll never be accepted. Mizuki laughed. That's why you'll always be alone. You're not human. You're a monster wearing human skin. Naruto's hands trembled. The scroll fell from his grasp. His vision [music] blurred with tears he refused to let fall. Was this his truth? Was this why? A sound cut through the clearing. It wasn't quite a sound, actually. More [music] like a distortion. A shimmer in the air itself. Both Naruto and Mizuki froze. Their conflict momentarily forgotten as they looked around wildly. Then she appeared. The air seemed to peel back like a curtain, revealing a figure that made Mizuki stumble backward in terror. She was tall, easily over seven feet with a powerful, muscular build that spoke of countless battles. Her skin was a modeled reddish [music] brown, and her face, her face was something from a nightmare with four mandibles that spread outward from her mouth, revealing sharp teeth. dreadlock-like appendages hung from her head, some decorated with small metal rings and beads. She wore minimal armor, a mesh bodysuit that left her arms and legs exposed, showing ritualistic scars and markings, and a metallic chest plate with strange symbols etched into it. But it was her eyes that captured Naruto's attention. They were intelligent, fierce, and focused entirely on him with an intensity that made his breath catch. There was something in those eyes. Recognition, possession, determination. What? What the hell is that? Mizuki screamed. His earlier bravado completely evaporated. The creature. She was clearly female despite her alien nature. Made a sound, a series of clicks and trills that seemed to come from deep in her throat. Then, to Naruto's shock, she spoke in perfect Japanese, her voice rough and accented, but unmistakably feminine. "You threaten what is mine," she said. her mandibles moving in a way that suggested speech was not their primary function. You call him monster weak prey. She took a step forward and Naruto could now see the weapons adorning her body, wrist blades that extended with a metallic whisper, a spear strapped to her back, and what looked like a shoulder-mounted cannon of some kind. "You are wrong," Mizuki threw his shuriken with a scream of terror. The massive blade spun through the air with lethal precision. The female creature didn't even try to dodge. She caught the weapon with one hand, the metal screeching as her clawed fingers dug into it. Then, with contemptuous ease, she crushed it, the shen crumpling like paper in her grip. Impossible, Mizuki whispered. You are not prey, she continued, advancing on the terrified tunin. You are not hunter. You are nothing. Her wrist blades extended fully, gleaming in the moonlight. You do not deserve clean death, but you threaten mine. For this, you die. Wait. Nar found his voice, stepping forward despite his own fear. Don't kill him. He's a traitor. But but that's not your choice to make. The village will deal with him. The creature stopped, her head turning toward Nar with an unreadable expression. [music] For a long moment, she simply stared at him, and Narut felt like he was being weighed and measured by something beyond his understanding. Then she clicked her mandibles and what might have been amusement. You defend one who would kill you, who called you monster. Weak prey would beg for protection. Warrior shows mercy from strength. She seemed to consider this. As you wish, he lives. She moved faster than Naruto's eyes could follow. One moment she was several feet away, the next she was behind Mizuki. There was a flash of movement, a signaling crack, and Mizuki crumpled to the ground unconscious. [music] "He will wake," she said simply, with much pain. "For many days." "Then she turned her full attention to Nar and suddenly the unconscious Mizuki seemed like the least of his concerns. She approached slowly, deliberately, like a predator that had cornered its prey, but was in no hurry. Naruto wanted to run, wanted to scream, but he found himself frozen in place. She stopped directly in front of him, towering over his small frame. Up close, he could see more details. The way her skin had a textured, almost reptilian quality, the small scars that marked her body like a map of battles fought and won. The strange beauty in her alien features that shouldn't exist but somehow did. "Do you know me, Naruto Uzumaki?" she asked, reaching out with one clawed hand. Naruto flinched but didn't run. And no, what? What are you? I am Yaoa, hunter, warrior. Her hand touched his cheek with surprising gentleness. The claws careful not to cut. I am Kusha. And you? You are mine. Yours? Naruto's voice cracked. What do you mean? Kusha's mandible spread in what Naruto would later learn was a smile. I have watched you, little warrior, since you were very small. I have seen [music] your hunts, your battles with loneliness, your refusal to break. I have seen your strength, your honor, your warrior's heart in a child's body. She leaned closer, and Nar could smell something on her, not unpleasant, but alien, like ozone and copper and something wild. By the traditions of my people, [music] I have claimed you. You are my chosen mate. Naruto's brain seemed to short circuit. And mate, but I'm 12 and you're you're alien. Cushion is supplied. Yes, but age means different things to my people. I do not claim you for now, little one. I claim you for what you will become. I have seen your potential, your destiny. You will be great warrior, legendary hunter, and you will be mine. This is crazy, Naruto breathed. You can't just claim people among my kind. I can. Kushina straightened her hand falling away from his face. But I am not without honor. I will not force. I will prove my worth to you as you have proven yours to me. I will protect, teach, provide. I will show you what it means to be truly strong. And when you are ready, when you understand, you will accept my claim or reject it. The choice will be yours. Why? Naruto demanded, finding his courage again. Why me? You said it yourself. I'm the ninetailed fox. I'm a monster. Everyone says so. Kusha's roar made the trees shake. It was a sound of pure fury, of denial so violent that Nar actually stumbled backward. When she spoke again, her voice was hard as iron. [music] You are not monster. You are container vessel. You hold great power, yes, but that is not who you are. Monster is what acts without honor, kills without purpose, destroys for pleasure. You, she jabbed a clawed finger at his chest. You fight to protect. You refuse to surrender. You laugh in face of hate. That is not monster. That is warrior. That is why you are worthy. Why you are mine. Tears were streaming down Naruto's face now, but he didn't know why. Something about hearing those words from this terrifying alien creature broke something open inside him. All his life he'd wondered what was wrong with him. All his life he'd been called monster demon brat. And here was this this hunter, this warrior from the stars, telling him he was worthy. I don't understand any of this, he whispered. Kusha knelt down, bringing herself closer to his eye level, though she still towered over him. You will. I will make you understand. But first, your teacher. He still lives. Iraq sensei. Nar had almost forgotten in the chaos. He's hurt. Mizuki threw a shuriken. Show me. Nar didn't question how she knew he would obey. He just ran. And Kusha followed with an easy loping stride that covered ground effortlessly. They found Raa propped against the tree, pale and bleeding, but conscious. His eyes widened when he saw Kusha. Nar get away from she's not going to hurt us. Naruto interrupted. I think she uh she helped. Mizuki's unconscious back in the clearing. You retrieved the scroll? Araka asked weekly. Yes, and I learned a jutzu from it. Look. Naruto formed the hand seal, concentrating. Shadow clone jutzu. Kusha watched with interest as multiple copies of Narut appeared in puffs of smoke. She clicked her mandibles appreciatively. Good technique creates real bodies, not illusions. Useful for overwhelming enemies or scouting or learning. She tilted her head. You have good instincts for battle. How do you know about ninja techniques? Raa asked suspiciously even as he pressed a hand to his wound. I have watched this village for many years. Kushner replied. Studied your ways, your warriors, your culture. I am hunter. I study my environment, my prey, my allies. She moved toward who tensed, but she simply lifted him with ease. You need healing. I will carry you to village. Nar will guide. The journey back to Kenoha was surreal. Nar led the way, occasionally glancing back at the bizarre sight of his teacher being carried like a child by an alien warrior who claimed to have chosen him as a mate. His mind was reeling with everything that had happened. The revelation about the Ninetales, Mizuki's betrayal, Kushina's appearance. Nar said quietly as they walked. What she said about about the nine tales. I wanted to tell you differently, more gently. It's true then? Nar asked, not looking back. Yes, but that doesn't change who you are. You're not the fox, Nar. You're you. You're my student, and I'm proud of you. He speaks truth. Kusha added, "You are not your burden. Among my people, greatest warriors bear heaviest weights. It is honor, not shame." They emerge from the forest to find a group of ANBU waiting, their animal masks gleaming in the moonlight. They immediately took combat stances [music] when they saw Kusha. Halt. Identify yourself. Kusha seta down carefully before straightening to her full height. I am Kusha. Yaoja warrior. I have lived in your village for 12 years hidden watching. I have harmed no one. I have taken nothing. Tonight I revealed myself to protect what is mine. She gestured to Nar. This one impossible. One of the A and BU breathed. The Hokag needs to be informed immediately. Yes, Kusha agreed. I wish to speak with your leader to make formal claim to establish terms. But first, the teacher needs healing. The traitor Mizuki is unconscious in the clearing east direction 200 m. The stolen scroll is there also. The A and BU looked at each other clearly unsure how to handle this situation. Finally, one of them nodded. Dog, takea to the hospital. Hawk, retrieve Mizuki and the scroll. The rest of you, escort these two to the Hokag and someone wake up the council. They're going to want to be there for this. Nar found himself walking through the village in the middle of the night, flanked by with a 7-ft tall alien warrior walking beside him like it was the most natural thing in the world. People were staring from their windows, pointing and whispering. By [music] tomorrow, the entire village would know about Kusha's existence. The Hokag's office was lit up, and Herozen Saratobi stood waiting, still in his nightcloed, but with his hokag hat firmly in place. His eyes were sharp as they took in Kushina, showing no fear despite the aliens intimidating appearance. "So," the old man said calmly, "it seems we have a visitor who has been hiding in plain sight. Please come in. We have much to discuss. The meeting room was soon filled with people, the Hokag, several council members who had been hastily awakened, and various clan heads who had been summoned. They all stared at Kusha with varying expressions of fear, suspicion, and curiosity. Naruto stood next to her, feeling small and overwhelmed, but stubbornly refusing to leave. Kushina showed no sign of intimidation. She stood tall and proud, her bearing that of a warrior meeting with equals, not a prisoner facing judgment. I am Kusha of the Dark Blade clan, she began, her rough voice carrying clearly through the room. I am Yaoa. You may know us from your legends as demons, monsters, or gods, depending on the culture. We are none of these things. We are hunters, warriors, travelers. We have visited your world for thousands of your years, seeking worthy prey and testing ourselves against the strongest your species can offer. And you've been living in Kohaa for 12 years. Herzen [music] asked calmly. Why reveal yourself now? Because tonight my claim was threatened. Kusha's hand moved to rest on Naruto's shoulder. 12 years ago, I came to your village during the Ninetales attack. I watched the fourth Hokag sacrifice himself to seal the beast in this child. I watched the village turn its hate upon an infant who had done nothing but survive. And I saw potential, strength, fire, and the soul. So I stayed. I watched him grow. I protected him from the shadows when hate turned to violence. I observed his battles, his growth, his unbreakable spirit. And by the traditions of my people, I claimed him as my chosen mate. The room erupted in outrage. You can't be serious. He's a child. This is an abomination. Kushin's roar silence them all. Silence. I have claimed him for his future, not his present. Among my people, claiming a young warrior is great honor. It means I see his potential, his worth, [music] and I stake my own honor on his growth. I will protect him, train him, provide for him, and when he is of age, when he is ready, he may accept or reject my claim. This is our way. And if we refuse to allow this, one of the council members demanded, if we order you to leave our village, Kushina's mandibles spread in a dangerous smile. You may try, but I have lived here 12 years undetected. I know every street, every building, every secret passage. I have technology you cannot comprehend and skills honed over a century of hunts. If I wish to stay, I will stay. If I wish to take what is mine and leave, I will do so. And your walls will not stop me. She leaned forward. But I do not wish to be enemy. I wish to make formal arrangement. I wish to live in your village openly to contribute to trade knowledge. In exchange, I claim Naruto Uzumaki as mine to protect and train according to both our traditions. Herzen stroked his [music] beard thoughtfully. You say you've protected him from what? from mob on his fth birthday that would have beaten him to death if I had not intervened. From poison in his food at age seven. From assassin in the night at age nine who thought to end the demon before he could grow strong. All of these I stopped silently leaving no trace. He has lived because I willed it. Nar stared up at her in shock. You You saved me. All those times? Yes, little one. Always I have watched. Always I have protected what is mine. Hirozen's eyes had hardened. You have evidence of these attempts on his life. I kept trophies as is our way. I will provide [music] them. The Hokag looked around the room at the assembled leaders. This is an unprecedented situation. We need time to discuss to consider the implications. However, he looked at Kusha directly. If what you say is true, if you truly have protected Naruto all these years, then perhaps we owe you more gratitude than suspicion. I wish no gratitude. I did not act for you. I acted for him for what [music] is mine. Nevertheless, Herosen made a decision. For tonight, you will be given guest quarters under guard. For formality's sake, not because we believe we could actually hold you against your will. Tomorrow, we will discuss terms. Naruto, you will come with me. We have our own matters to discuss. Kusha's hand tightened on Naruto's shoulder. He stays with me. He is a citizen of Konoha. He is mine. My claim stands until he rejects it or accepts it. Until then, he is under my protection. This is not negotiable. The tension in the room was thick enough to cut. Finally, Herzan sighed, "Very [music] well, but understand, Kushina of the Dark Blade clan, that you are now in the light. Your actions will be watched, judged. If you truly wish to live here, you will have to follow our rules. I will follow rules that have honor. I will not follow hate disguised as law. If your people attempt to harm what is mine again, I will respond." This is my only warning. It was a threat, but it was an honest one. Somehow that made it easier to accept. The guest quarters were actually quite nice. A small apartment in a secure part of the village. The A&B guards station outside were more for show than anything else. Kusha prowled around the space, examining everything with a hunter's eye while Naruto sat on the couch, his mind still reeling. So he finally said, "You're really an alien from space?" "Yes. [music] And you've been watching me since I was a baby." "Yes." And you want to marry me when I'm older? Bond with you. Yes, marriage is your word, but it is close enough. That's really weird. Kusha's mandibles clicked in what Naruto was starting to recognize as amusement. Yes, but truth is often strange. Question is, does this truth frighten you? [music] Naruto thought about it. Really thought about it. This creature, Kusha, had just upended his entire world. She was alien, terrifying, completely outside his understanding of reality. But she had also called him worthy, had protected him, had looked at him like he mattered. I don't know, he admitted. I'm scared. Yeah, but I'm also I don't know. Curious, you said. You train me. Teach me to be stronger. Yes. I will teach you to hunt, to fight, to survive. I will teach you honor, strategy, tradition. I will make you strong, little one. So strong that those who called you monster will know fear when you pass. So strong that you will need to fear no [music] one. And what do you want in return? Really? Kusha sat down across from him. Her massive frame somehow graceful. I want worthy mate. I want warrior who can stand beside me without shame. I want partnership built on strength, honor, respect. These things you can become. These things you will be if you choose. And if I don't choose you, if I decide I don't want to be your mate, then you will still have my training, my protection, my respect. Claim is not prison. It is promise. I promise to make you worthy of being claimed. You promise to become best version of yourself. What happens after? She spread her hands. That is for future us to decide. Nar looked at this alien warrior who had stepped out of the shadows to claim him and felt something shift in his chest. For the first time in his life, someone wanted him. Not despite what he was, but because of who he could become. "Okay," he said [music] quietly. "Teach me. Make me strong, and we'll figure out the rest later." Kusha's mandible spread in a full smile, and Naruto realized that despite her alien features, despite everything that made her different, there was something almost beautiful about her in that moment. Good choice, little warrior. Good choice. Your life begins now. Tomorrow you become more than you were. Tomorrow you begin the path to becoming legend. Outside, the sun was starting to rise over Konoha, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. Naruto Uzumaki, container of the ninetailed fox, prankster, academy failure, looked out the window at his village and felt hope for the first time in a long time. He didn't know what the future held. Didn't know if he would accept Kushin's claim or what it would mean if he did. Didn't know how the village would react or what challenges lay ahead. But he knew one thing for certain. He was no longer alone. And for now, that was enough. In the shadows of the village, other eyes watched the apartment where the alien and the boy slept. Some watched with fear, some with hatred, some with curiosity, and in the deepest shadows, something ancient and malevolent stirred, sensing a change in the pattern it had been weaving for so long. The Ninetailes vessel had found a protector that could not be allowed to continue. Plans would need to change. Pieces would need to be moved. But for tonight, Naruto Uzzuaki was safe, protected by a warrior from the stars who had claimed him as her own. And in the morning, his real training would begin. The morning sun had barely cleared the horizon when Naruto woke to find Kusha already awake, standing by the window in a meditative stance. Her biomask, a fearsome skull-like helmet he hadn't seen her wear last night, sat on the table nearby, along with various pieces of equipment that looked like they belonged in a science fiction movie rather than a ninja village. [music] You don't sleep? Narudo asked, his voice still rough with sleep. Kusha turned, her mandibles clicking softly. I sleep, but not as your kind does. 3 hours is sufficient for my biology. You slept 9 hours. Good. Growing warriors need rest. [music] 9 hours. Nar bolted upright. I'm going to be late for He stopped. Reality crashing back. Oh, right. I'm probably not going back to the academy after last night. No, your training there is finished. You passed their test, retrieved forbidden scroll, learned [music] jetsu, defeated traitor. By their own rules, you have earned rank of Jennon. Kushina moved away from the window with that fluid grace that seemed impossible for something so large. Today, you learned what it means to be mine. Before Naruto could respond, there was a knock at the door. Kusha's head tilted and Naruto realized she was probably using senses he didn't have to identify who was there. Yohokag and three others. One smells of smoke and war. One smells of medicine and death. One smells of flowers and steel. All warriors but old leaders. How can you smell all that? Nar asked as he moved to open the door. When you cannot see in certain light spectrums like humans can, other senses become stronger. I will teach you to use all your senses, not just eyes. Nar opened the door to find exactly who Kusha had described. The Hokag flanked by three elderly people. He vaguely recognized his council members. The one who smelled of smoke and wore was probably Hamira Midocado, the severe-l lookinging man with sharp eyes. The medicine and death scent likely came from Kohari, the elderly woman with a medical background and flowers and steel that had to be a civilian council member perhaps representing the merchant clans. Naruto Kushan Heroszen greeted them formally. May we enter? It is your village, your building, Kushina replied. But if you enter as enemies, you will leave as corpses. If you enter as guests, you will leave with answers. Choose. Hamira bristled at the threat, but Herzen raised a calming hand. We enter as guests, seeking understanding in terms of peace. Kushin nodded and stepped back, allowing them entry. The apartment suddenly felt much smaller with five people and a 7-ft tall alien warrior inside it. Nar found himself pressed against the wall trying to stay out of the way. Narzan said gently, you don't have to stay for this. These are political matters. No. Kusha's voice was firm. He stays. These discussions concern his future. He has right to hear all, understand [music] all, decide all. To exclude him is to treat him as child, as possession. He is either. [music] He is warrior. He's 12, Koharu said sharply. And I first killed at age six by your counting of years. Kusher replied calmly. Age is not measure of worth among my people. Skill is, honor is, strength is, he has all three. He stays. Her roen sighed but nodded. Very well. Please let us all sit. It was almost comical watching the elderly council members try to arrange themselves on furniture that was suddenly sharing space with an alien warrior. Eventually, everyone found seats with Nar ending up next to Kusha on the couch, very aware of how her presence seemed to dominate the room. Let's begin with the basics, Haren said, lighting his pipe. You claimed to have lived in Kohaa for 12 years undetected. How? Kusha reached for her biomask and [music] placed it on her head. Immediately, her body seemed to shimmer and vanish, though Naruto could still feel the couch compressed under her weight next to him. Active camouflage technology. Light bends around me. To your eyes, I am invisible. To your sensors, I register as empty space. Also, she deactivated the cloak, reappearing. I spent first 6 months learning your language, your customs, your architecture. I claimed territory in your forest of death where few venture. I hunted there, lived there, watched from there. Your village is easy to observe when one can scale buildings silently and see in darkness the forest of death, Hamira said slowly. That explains some of the unusual disappearances of dangerous animals. We thought it was natural predation. It was I was predator, but I only took what I needed for sustenance and what threatened to leave forest for village. I kept balance as proper hunter should and you chose to stay because of Nar. Koharu<unk>'s eyes were calculating. Why? What possible interest could you have in a child? Kusha's mandible spread in what Naruto now recognized as a smile, but this one had an edge to it. You wished to [music] understand Yao culture. Very well. I will teach, she stood, her full height making everyone else look up at her. Among my people, bloodline and clan are everything. We are judged by our hunts, yes, but also by who we choose to bond with. To choose mate is to say this warrior's strength will combine with mine to create something greater. It is not done lightly. She began to pace, her movements precise and deliberate. I came to your world seeking worthy prey. Your kind is known across the stars, adaptable, clever, dangerous despite lack of technology. I sought your strongest warriors, but when I arrived, I found more than I expected. I found the ninetailed fox. Naruto flinched at the name, but Kusha continued, "A beast of pure chakra, of primal rage. It destroyed much, killed many. And then I watched your fourth hokag seal it into newborn child. Such power, such potential, locked within innocent vessel. And I thought this child, if he survives, if he grows strong, if he masters this power, he could become legend. He could become worthy of the hunt, worthy of me. So you stayed to see if your gamble would pay off, Harisen said quietly. I stayed because I saw something else. I saw a village turn on infant. I saw hate directed at one who had no choice, no say, no understanding. I saw injustice and I thought if he survives this, if he grows strong despite this, then he will be more than legend. He will be exceptional. Kusha turned to look at Naruto directly. And I was right. He grew. He fought. He never surrendered. He proved himself again and again. Even when others refused to see that is warrior's heart. That is why he is worthy. That is why he is mine. This claim of yours, the civilian council member spoke up, her voice surprisingly strong. Explain it more clearly. What exactly are you demanding? I demand nothing. I claim what is mine by right of hunt, by tradition, by choice. Kusha sat back down, [music] the couch creaking under her weight. In Yao culture, when warrior sees another worthy of bonding, they may make claim. This claim is declaration. I see your worth. I will prove my worth to you. And when both are ready, we will bond. Bond is partnership, alliance, joining of strengths. It is, you would call it marriage, though that word is too simple for what we mean. And Naruto has no say in this. Koharu demanded, "He has every say. Claim is not ownership. It is promise. I promise to protect him, train him, provide for him. I promise to make him stronger, to honor his growth, to never hold him back. In return, he is expected to strive for strength, to embrace training, to become worthy of the claim. When he reaches maturity by both our culture standards, he may accept claim, [music] become my mate, or reject it. If he rejects, I must accept his choice and release claim. No shame in this, though it is disappointing. And if he accepts, Herusen asked, then we undergo bonding ritual. We become partners in all things. Where one goes, other follows. What one achieves, other shares. Children, if we have them, belong to both our clans. Resources are shared. Lives are bound. Kusha's mandibles clicked softly. It is not decision to make lightly, but it is decision that is his, not yours, not mine. His There was a long silence as everyone absorbed this. Finally, Harzen spoke again. And what do you offer Kenoha in exchange for allowing you to stay openly to pursue this claim? Cushion reached for a device on the table. A small metallic object covered in symbols. I offer knowledge, technology, training. I can teach your warriors new techniques, new ways of thinking. I can provide medical knowledge. My people heal from wounds that would kill yours. I can provide weapons, armor, tools beyond your current capability. I can hunt your enemies, eliminate threats before they reach your walls. I can be ally asset protector and the cost. Hamira asked suspiciously. I keep my claim on Naruto. [music] I train him my way along with your ninja training. He remains citizen of Kenoha, but he is also claimed by Dark Blade clan. When time comes for him to become Jennine, I want voice and who trains him. I want access to missions that test him properly. and her voice hardened. Any who attempt to harm him for being Jin Shuriki will answer to me, not your laws. This is non-negotiable. You can't just declare yourself above our laws. Kohara protested. [music] I do not place myself above your laws. I place myself as his protector. If your laws protect him fairly, we have no conflict. If your laws allow harm to come to him because of hate disguised as justice, then yes, I will act outside your laws. I have watched for 12 years. I have seen the attempts on his life, the poison food, the accidents that were not accidents. Your laws did not protect him then. I did. Do not ask me to stop now. The council members exchanged glances. Herzen's face was grave. Are you saying there were assassination attempts we didn't know about? You knew, Kushina said flatly. Perhaps not you specifically, Hokag, but your village knew. Your amb knew, some of your council knew. They chose not to act because ginuriki without protection is easier to control, easier to manipulate. Dead ginuriki cannot become political problem. The temperature in the room seemed to drop. Herzen's eyes had gone hard as steel. That is a very serious accusation. It is truth. I have evidence. Trophies from each kill I made protecting him. Weapons used. poison bottles, written orders in some cases. I will provide all. Kusha leaned forward. I do not say this to threaten. I say this so you understand. I will not allow it to continue. Claim or no claim, village approval or no approval, that child is under my protection. Make your peace with this or do not. But it will not change. Nar had been silent throughout this entire exchange, but now he found his voice. Is that true? Were people really trying to kill me all this time? Harrosen's face softened as he looked at the boy. I knew there were incidents. I did what I could to protect you, Nar, but I didn't realize the extent of it. For that, I apologize. Do not apologize with words, Kusha said. Apologize with action. Make it clear. Any who harm him harm Kenoha. Make it law. Make it absolute. Then your words have meaning. You ask for preferential treatment. Hamira began. I ask for basic protection. Kushin's roar shook the windows. I ask for child to not be murdered for circumstances beyond his control. This is not preferential treatment. This is basic civilization. If you cannot provide this, then your village is not worthy of his loyalty. And I will take him somewhere that is. That sounds like a threat, the civilian council member said coldly. It is reality. I can leave your village whenever I choose. I can take him with me. You cannot stop me. I choose to stay to offer alliance to work within your systems. But I will not compromise his safety. Never. Make your choice. The room fell silent again. Narudo could feel the tension thick enough to cut with a knife. Finally, Harzen [music] stood. His decision made. Very well. Here are my terms. You may stay in Kenoha openly. You will be granted status as foreign dignitary. I suppose representing your people. You [music] may pursue your claim on Naruto, but he will continue his training as a ninja of Kohaa. When he becomes a jennon, we will discuss his team placement, and you may have input, but not final say. We must balance his needs with team dynamics. You may train him in your ways, but he must also train in ours. And yes, [music] he looked at his council members, his voice brooking no argument. I will issue an immediate decree. Any harm that comes to Naruto Uzumaki will be treated as an attack on a Koha Shinobi and prosecuted [music] to the fullest extent. This protection extends to all Ginuriki and will be retroactive. Any past crimes will be investigated. Hamira looked like he wanted to protest, but Kohara placed a hand on his arm. The civilian council member simply nodded, her calculating eyes moving between Kusha and Nar. In exchange, Harrisonen continued, "You will provide the evidence you mentioned. You will share some of your knowledge and technology with our research division. [music] You will not hunt in our territory without permission except in self-defense. and you will attend regular meetings with myself and the council to ensure understanding between our peoples. Are these terms acceptable? Kushina considered for a long moment, then extended her hand in the human gesture of agreement. Acceptable. I will honor this agreement so long as you honor yours. Break faith with me and I break faith with you. Keep honor and I am your ally. This is our way. Her Rozan shook her hand, his smaller human hand completely engulfed by her clawed grip. Then we have an accord. Welcome officially to Kohaa. Kusha of the Dark Blade clan. After the council members left, Naruto finally let out the breath he'd been holding. That was intense. That was politics. Kusha replied, "Among my people, such things are simpler. Challenge is issued. Challenge is answered. Winner decides. But you humans, you talk and talk and talk. It is exhausting. So what happens now? Nar asked. Now you eat. Then we begin your real training. Kusha stood and moved to a pack in the corner that Nar hadn't noticed before. From it she pulled what looked like dried meat. This is prey I hunted in your forest. Prepared according to my traditions. It will build strength, increase endurance. Eat. Nar took the offered meat hesitantly. It smelled strange but not bad. Smoky with spices he didn't recognize. He took a bite and was surprised by how good it tasted. This is really good. Of course, proper preparation of kill is mark of good hunter. Food is not just fuel. It is respect for prey that gave its life. You will learn to hunt, to kill cleanly, to prepare your kill with honor. All of this is part of being warrior. As Naruto 8 ate, Kusha began to lay out various pieces of equipment. These are training tools. Some are traditional yao weapons. Some are devices for building strength, speed, senses. Some are simply for survival. We will start [music] with basics. Physical conditioning, sensory awareness, basic combat forms. Then we advance to weapons, tactics, hunting techniques. Eventually, when you are ready, we begin training with advanced technology. How long will all this take? Naruto asked around a mouthful of meat. Years. Proper warrior training among my people takes decades. But you also have ninja training, which has its own merits. We will combine both, make you something new, something neither pure Yaoja nor pure ninja, but synthesis of both. You will be unique, legendary. No pressure, right? Narudo said with a nervous laugh. Kusha's mandibles clicked in amusement. Much pressure, but you are strong. You will endure. Come finish eating. We begin. The beginning turned out to be brutal. Kusha led Naruto to one of Kohaa's training grounds. Training ground 44, better known as the forest of death. [music] The guards at the entrance took one look at Kusha and immediately stepped aside, [music] their fear obvious despite their training. "This is where I lived for 12 years," Kusha explained as they entered the dense forest. "This is where you will train. Real training happens in real danger. Your academy taught you in safety with soft mats and practice weapons. I will teach you in wilderness with real threats and real consequences." Wait, real consequences? Like what? Like if you fail to dodge, you get hurt. If you fail to sense predator, you get attacked. If you fail to find food, you go hungry. This is how warriors are forged. Through challenge, through adversity, through overcoming real obstacles. Do not worry. I will not let you die, but I will let you learn through experience. Pain is excellent teacher, Narudo swallowed heart. He'd always wanted to be stronger, but this was different from anything he'd imagined. Okay, what do we [music] do first? First, you learn to be aware. Stand here. Close eyes. Naruto did as instructed. Immediately, the forest seemed to come alive with sounds he normally ignored. Birds calling, leaves [music] rustling, insects buzzing, something moving through underbrush in the distance. [music] Tell me what you hear, Kusha instructed. Birds, wind, something moving, maybe a rabbit. Good start. Now deeper. Listen not just with ears but with whole body. Feel air movement on skin. Smell the forest. Open yourself to environment. Naruto tried. Really tried. Slowly he became aware of more. The way the air moved differently when blocked by trees. The smell of earth and decay and growth all mixed together. The subtle vibrations in the ground from various animals moving about. There's something big to the left. Heavy footsteps and something flying overhead. And he concentrated harder. Water. There's water somewhere nearby. I can smell it. Excellent. Your senses are already better than average human. The fox inside you enhances them. You have been using this unconsciously all your life. Now we make it conscious, controlled. Keep eyes closed. I am going to move around you. Point to where I am. It was harder than Naruto expected. Kusha moved with absolute silence, but there were still clues. Displaced air, the faintest scent of ozone and copper, even the feeling of being watched. He pointed sometimes right, sometimes wrong, but gradually getting better. They spent 2 hours just on sensory training. Then Kushina moved to physical conditioning. Your academy taught you exercises, running, push-ups, basic strength training. This is foundation, yes, but not enough. You will need more strength, more speed, more endurance. You will be fighting opponents larger and stronger than you. Technique alone is not enough. You need power behind your strikes. What followed was the most exhausting workout of Naruto's life. Kusha had him running through the forest, not on paths, but through actual wilderness, climbing over fallen trees, ducking under branches, leaping across streams. When he thought he couldn't run anymore, she had him doing exercises that left his muscles screaming. Push-ups with her pressing down on his back, [music] sit-ups while holding rocks, squats while carrying logs. I can't do anymore. Naruto gasped, collapsed on the ground. Yes, you can. This is where real training begins. When body says stop, but will says continue. This is where warriors are separated from those who dream of being warriors. Get up. I can't. Kusha's roar made birds flee from nearby trees. Get up. You think enemy will wait for you to rest? You think danger will pause because you are tired? Get up or admit you are not worthy of my claim. Something in those words hit Naruto like a lightning bolt. Not worthy. After everything, after she'd said he was exceptional, was she taking it back? No. No. She was testing him, seeing if he meant it when he said he wanted to be strong. With a groan that was half determination and half agony, Narut pushed himself to his feet. His legs shook. His arms felt like rubber. But he stood again, Kusha said, her voice softer but still firm. 10 more. [music] 10 more what? Nar asked weakly. Everything. 10 more of what I just had you do. Then we rest. Then we continue. It was hell. Pure absolute hell. But Naruto did it. 10 more sprints through the forest. 10 more sets of exercises. And when he finally collapsed at the end, unable to move, Kusha knelt beside him with something that might have been [music] pride in her alien features. Good. You have warriors will body will catch up to spirit in time. Rest now. Drink this. She handed him a container filled with some kind of liquid that glowed faintly blue. "What is it?" Nar asked suspiciously. "Medicine? Energy restoration formula? It will help muscles recover faster, reduce lactic [music] acid buildup, replenish electrolytes. My people developed it for training young warriors. Drink." Naruto drank. It tasted like mint and electricity and something he couldn't identify. But almost immediately, he felt the burning in his muscles ease. Not disappear, but become manageable. Wow, that's amazing. Technology has its [music] uses. Now, while you rest, we talk. You have questions. I see them in your eyes. Ask. Naruto had about a million questions, but one kept pushing to the forefront. Why me? Really? I mean, you said about the nine tales and potential and all that, but there are lots of strong people in the village, people who are already warriors. Why claim someone like me? Kusha settled into a sitting position, her legs crossed in a way that reminded Nar of meditation poses. I will tell you truth, all of it. Among my people, to claim young warrior rather than proven one is considered romantic, idealistic. [music] Most choose mates who have already proven themselves through many hunts. Safer, smarter. But I, her mandibles click softly. I am not most. I am youngest of my clan to achieve elite status. I have broken many traditions challenged many assumptions. When I came to Earth, I was seeking to prove something that I could succeed where others had failed. That I could find prey worthy of legend. She looked at Naruto directly. And then I found you infant, helpless, abandoned by village that should have cherished you. And I thought, here is ultimate challenge. Not to hunt you, but to help you become worth hunting. To take weakest, most vulnerable, most hated, and forge him into legendary warrior. If I could do this, no one could question my judgment again. No one could say I am too young, too reckless, too unconventional. So I'm what, a project to you? Nar felt a flash of anger. At first, yes, Kusha admitted, and her honesty stung. But then something changed. I watched you grow. I watched you refuse to break despite having every reason to. I watched you fight for acknowledgement from people who gave you nothing but hate. I watched you stay kind despite cruelty, stay hopeful despite despair. And I realized you were not project. You were already exceptional. You just needed someone to see it, to nurture it, to give you tools to realize your potential. She reached out, her massive hand resting gently on his shoulder. So yes, you are my claim. Yes, I see political advantage in bonding with Genturiki of Ninetales. Yes, your potential power is attractive. But more than all of that, I respect you. I admire your spirit. And I want to see what you become when you have proper support, proper training, proper chance to shine. That is why you that is truth. Naruto didn't know what to say to that. It was more honest than he'd expected. And somehow that made it better. She wasn't promising love or pretending their relationship was something it wasn't. She was being real with him. "Okay," he said. Finally, I can work with that. So, what happens now? like long-term long-term you continue ninja training you become Jennine Shunin eventually Jonan perhaps Kage if that is your dream along the way I teach you my ways you learn to hunt to fight as Yao Jad do to use our technology you grow stronger more capable and as you grow [music] we see if my claim becomes more than professional interest see if partnership becomes something deeper if it does good if it does Not also good. Either way, you will be legendary warrior. That is goal. And what about you? What do you want out of this? Kusha's mandibles spread in a smile. I want worthy mate. I want partner who can stand beside me in battle without needing protection. I want someone who understands honor, strength, warriors way. I want not to be alone. I have been alone for 12 years, little one. Watching from shadows, unable to connect with anyone. It is not natural for my kind. We are social within our clans to be isolated even by choice. It is hard. So, I want connection. I want belonging. I want family. The word family hit Naruto hard. He never had family. Never had anyone who chose him, who wanted him around. And here was this alien warrior, terrifying and powerful and completely outside his understanding, saying she wanted that with him. I think, Naruto said slowly, I think I can understand that. I've always wanted family, too. Someone to come home to. Someone who gives a damn if I live or die. Maybe, maybe we can figure this out together. That is my hope, Kushner replied. Now rest time is over. We continued training. Next lesson. Basic combat forms. Naruto groaned but got to his feet. His muscles protested, but the glowing medicine had definitely helped. What kind of combat forms? Ya. Your hand-to-h hand techniques. We do not have many formal styles like your martial arts. Each hunter develops own style based on body type, preferences, experience. But there are basics all learn. How to strike with maximum force. How to use opponent's size against them, how to kill quickly and efficiently, how to disable without killing when honor demands. All of this you will learn. The next several hours were spent with Kushina demonstrating strikes, blocks, and grapples [music] that utilized her natural weapons, her claws, her mandibles, her superior strength. Then she adapted them for Naruto's smaller, less armed body. You do not have claws, so you must strike with precision. eyes, throat, joints, nerve clusters. You do not have my strength, so you must use leverage and momentum. You do not have my armor, so you must be faster, more evasive. Your weaknesses become advantages if you understand them. It was fascinating and frustrating in equal measure. The techniques were effective but required strength and speed Naruto didn't yet have. But Kusha was patient, showing him again and again, correcting his form, explaining the reasoning behind each move. Why not just teach me ninja techniques? Naruto [music] asked after the hundth correction to his stance. Because ninja techniques rely on chakra control you have not yet mastered. Yaoa techniques rely on body mechanics and understanding of anatomy. These you can learn now. Later, we combine both. Imagine shadow clone jutzu combined with Yaoa pack hunting tactics. Imagine body flicker combined with active camouflage. Imagine Jen jutsu combined with Yaoa's psychological warfare. The possibilities are endless when you master both. That actually got Nar excited. The idea of combining ninja and alien techniques, of being something unique, it appealed to his desire to stand out, to be acknowledged. They trained until the sun began to set and Nar was quite literally swaying on his feet. Finally, Kusha called a halt. Enough for first day. You have done well. Better than expected. Tomorrow [music] we train again. Day after you meet with Hokag to discuss Jennon status. But for now, rest, eat, recover. Your body needs time to adapt to new demands. They made their way back to the apartment where Kusha prepared more of the alien meat along with some rice and vegetables she'd apparently learned to cook during her 12 years in Kenoha. As they ate, Naruto found himself studying her, really looking at her for the first time without fear clouding his perception. She was undeniably alien, but there was something almost graceful about her movements, something dignified in the way she carried herself. The scars on her body told stories of battles fought and [music] won. the decorations on her dreadlocks suggested achievements earned. She was in her own way beautiful, just in a way that was completely different from anything human. "You stare," Kushina observed without looking up from her meal. "Sorry, I'm just trying to understand all this. Yesterday, I was failing academy student. Today, I'm Jenning with an alien mentor who wants to marry me eventually. It's a lot. Yes, it is. But you are handling it well. Most would run screaming. You ask questions, seek understanding, adapt. This is intelligence. This is strength. This is why you are worthy. Can I ask something personal? Nar ventured. You may ask anything. I may not answer, but you may ask. Do you ever regret it? Staying here for 12 years. Watching but not connecting. That sounds lonely. Kusha was [music] silent for a long moment. Yes, she finally admitted. I regret loneliness. I regret watching other Yaoucha return home for celebrations, for hunts, for bonding ceremonies while I remained here. I regret not being able to speak with my clan to share my experiences. But she looked at him directly. I do not regret choice. Loneliness was price of claim and you are worth price. Never doubt that. Naruto felt his throat tighten with emotion. "Thank you for everything. For protecting me all those years, for believing in me, for for wanting me. You are welcome, little warrior. Now sleep. Tomorrow brings new challenges. And soon you will face village as Jennon with alien mentor. That will bring its own difficulties. Rest while you can." Narut nodded and headed to the bedroom Kusha had designated as his. As he lay down, [music] his body aching, but his mind strangely at peace, he thought about everything that [music] had changed in just two days. He had a mentor, a protector, someone who saw him as worthy, as having potential, as being more than just the Ninetailes container. It wasn't traditional family, but it was something. It was a start. And maybe, just maybe, it was exactly what he needed. In the main room, Kusha sat by the window, her biomask on as she scanned the village with sensors that could detect threats normal eyes would miss. She had meant everything she told the boy. He was her claim, her project, her investment. But he was also something more. He was hope. Hope that she could forge something new, something that bridged the gap between their species. hope that she could prove the skeptics wrong. Hope that she didn't have to be alone anymore. She would make him strong. She would make him legendary. And perhaps, if she was very fortunate, she would make him hers in truth, not just in claim. But that was for the future. For now, she had a warrior to train, a village to negotiate with, and enemies to watch for. The hunt had truly begun. Three days had passed since the council meeting, and Kinoa was still buzzing with rumors about the alien warrior and her claim on the Ginuriki. Nar could feel the stairs as he walked through the village with Kusha beside him, her presence impossible to ignore or miss. Some people looked at them with fear, others with curiosity, and a few, mostly Shinobi, who understood the value of a strong ally, was something like respect. Today was different, though. Today, Narut was being officially recognized as a jennon. And Kusha had insisted on accompanying him to the Hokag Tower for the ceremony. "You don't have to come," Nar said as they approached the building. "I mean, I can handle getting my headband on my own. I go where you go," Kusha replied firmly. "Until you are strong enough to not need protection. I am your shadow. Besides," her mandibles clicked in amusement. I wish to see faces of those who doubted you when you receive recognition you earned. Naruto couldn't help but grin at that. Having someone in his corner, someone who actively wanted to see him succeed was still a novel experience. They entered the tower and made their way to the Hokage's office where Herosen waited along with Raa who was still recovering from his injuries but insisted on being present. Narosen greeted warmly. Ayra sensei tells me you mastered the shadow clone jutzu in just a few hours. That's quite an achievement. It wasn't that hard once I understood the hand seals. Naruto said trying to sound modest and failing completely. I made like a thousand clones. A thousand? I looked startled. Nar even experienced Jonan can't maintain that many clones. How did you? He paused glancing at Kusha. The ninetailes likely Kushina confirmed large chakra reserves are necessary for mass clone technique. The fox provides this. He should learn to use this advantage properly. Many clones mean many training sessions happening simultaneously. Could accelerate learning significantly. Herzen's eyes sharpened with interest. That's actually an excellent point. The shadow clone jutzu is forbidden partly because of the chakra drain but also because the memory feedback can be overwhelming. But if Nar can handle it, we will test gradually. Kusha said push limits without breaking mind is good training for mental discipline as well as chakra control. Indeed, Harrosen pulled out a koha headband from his desk. Naruto Uzumaki, by your actions in retrieving the scroll of ceiling, defeating the traitor Mizuki, and demonstrating mastery of a Jonan level technique, I hereby recognize you as a jennon of Kanahagur. Wear this headband with pride and remember that you carry the will of fire within you." Narudo took the headband with trembling hands. This was it. This was what he'd been working toward for years. He tied it around his forehead, the metal plate cool against his skin, and felt something settle in his chest. He was a ninja now. A real ninja. Congratulations, Naruto. Araka said with a genuine smile. I'm proud of you. However, Harrosen continued, "We now face the question of your team placement. Traditionally, Jennon are placed in three-person teams under a Jonin instructor. But your situation is unique because of me. Kushina [music] said flatly. You fear I will interfere with team dynamics or that other Jennon will fear me or that I will try to control his missions. All valid concerns, Horizon admitted. But more than that, we need to consider what's best for Naruto's development. A team would provide valuable experience in cooperation and tactics, but having you as an additional mentor could also provide advantages no other Jennine has access to. I have proposal, Kushina said, allow him to be placed on team. I will not interfere with team training or standard missions, but for special training, for dangerous missions, for times when he needs my specific skills, I am available. Best of both worlds. He learns teamwork but also has access to my knowledge and what about the trial you mentioned yesterday. Herzen asked, "You said something about needing to formalize your claim through a traditional hunt." [music] Naruto perked up at this. Kusha had mentioned the trial briefly during training but hadn't explained what it actually involved. Yes, among my people, when claim is made on young warrior, there must be trial of strength. It proves claimment is worthy of being mentor and protector. It proves claimed has courage to face dangers of hunt and it proves to both that partnership has foundation of respect and capability not just words. What does this trial involve? Araka asked nervously. Kusha's mandibles spread in a fierce grin. Hunt. Real hunt in dangerous territory against worthy prey. Narudo must track, fight, [music] and survive for three days while I observe and protect from distance. If he succeeds, claim is validated in eyes of my people. If he fails, she paused. He fails. We try again when he is stronger. Absolutely not, Raa said immediately. He's 12 years old. You can't send him out to fight dangerous animals alone. I can and I will. This is our way. This is tradition. Kusha turned to Nar. But choice is yours, little warrior. You may [music] refuse. Say you are not ready and we wait. No shame in knowing your limits. But if you accept, you prove something to me, to yourself, to all who doubt you. Naruto's mind raced. Three days alone in the wilderness, hunting something dangerous with Kusha watching but not helping unless his life was truly in danger. It sounded terrifying. It also sounded exactly like the kind of challenge that would prove he wasn't just some lucky kid who stumbled into passing the Jennine exam. "What would I be hunting?" he asked. "Not what, where?" Kusha pulled out a map from her equipment pack and spread it on the Hokag's desk. It showed a region outside Fire Country in a mountainous area between Fire and Earth territories. Here the howling peaks, dangerous terrain, home to predators, both animal and bandit. You must survive 3 days, hunt food, build shelter, defend yourself. I will observe. I will intervene only if you face certain death. Everything else you handle. That's insane. Araka protested. Hokag sama. You can't allow this. But Hiroen was studying the map thoughtfully. The howling peaks are technically unclaimed territory. No political complications if something happens there. And if Kusha is watching, he looked at the Yao warrior. You swear you'll keep him safe, that you won't let him die for the sake of tradition. I swear on my honor as a lead hunter of the Dark Blade clan. He is my claim. His death is my failure, my shame. I will guard him with my life if necessary. But I will also let him struggle. Let him face danger. Let him grow. That is point of trial, Naruto. [music] Horizon asked. What do you think? Naruto looked at the map, then at Kusha's fierce alien features, then at Raa's concerned face. This was a test. Not just of his skills, but of his resolve. Did he really want to be a legendary warrior? Did he really want to walk this path? I'll do it, he said, trying to sound more confident than he felt. When do we leave? Tomorrow at dawn, Kushner replied immediately. Today you spend with your team assignment. Meet them, train with them, established bonds. Tonight I teach you basic survival skills. Tomorrow we travel to the peaks. Trio begins at sunset. Harrosen nodded slowly. Very well. I'll allow this, but on two conditions. First, you take a radio beacon. If something goes catastrophically wrong, we need to be able to send backup. Second, Kusha, you provide us with daily check-ins. We need to know Naruto is still alive. Acceptable. Kusha agreed. Radio beacon may be worn but not used by him except for true emergency. I will check in each evening at sundown. Is fair compromise? Then it's settled. Horizon turned to Nar. Your team assignment is team seven. You'll be working with Sasuke Aiha and Sakura Haruno under Kakashi Hataki. Their meeting at training ground 3 in 1 hour. Don't be late. Training ground 3 was already occupied when Naruto arrived. Sasuke Ai House sat on a wooden post looking brooding and aloof as usual. Sakura Haro stood nearby, clearly trying to get his attention and failing. Both looked up when Naruto approached with Kusha towering behind him. Sakura's scream could probably be heard across the village. What is that? She shrieked, pointing at Kusha with a trembling hand. "That is Kusha," Naruto said, trying to sound casual. "She's uh kind of my mentor and also an alien warrior from space who's been living in the forest of death for 12 years." Sasuke was on his feet instantly. Sharing activating as he dropped into a combat stance. Enemy stand down. Aiha Kusha said her voice carrying an edge of command. I am ally to Kohaa. I am claimed mentor to Nar. I am not threat unless you make yourself one. Sharing Kushin's head tilted with interest. Blood limit that copies techniques and predicts movement. Impressive. But eyes alone do not make warrior. You have skill to match your bloodline. Sasuke's jaw clenched. I'm the top graduate of our academy class. Were Naruto corrected with perhaps more satisfaction than necessary. I got promoted early. Remember? Technically, that makes me a jennon before you. You [music] cheated. You stole the scroll. I was tricked into taking it, fought a traitor, and learned a Jonan level jutzu in a few hours. That's not cheating. That's being awesome enough. Kusha's voice cut through their bickering. You are team now. [music] rivals perhaps but also allies. You will work together or you will fail together. This is reality of shinobi life. She looked at both of them. Nar will be with team for training and standard missions. But he also trains with me. Do not expect him to be weak link because he seems foolish. [music] He has potential you do not see yet. Judge him by his actions not his reputation. And who are you to tell us anything? Sakura demanded, having recovered some of her courage. You're not our sensei. No, but I am warrior who has survived a century of hunts across the stars. I am elite hunter who has faced and defeated [music] opponents that would make your toughest shinobi flee in terror. I am teacher to one who will surpass you all if he applies himself. Mock me if you wish. [music] Just remember that I could kill you both before you completed your first hand seal. I choose not to out of respect for Naruto's new team. Do not test my patience. [music] The temperature seemed to drop several degrees. Both Sasuke and Sakura went pale. Suddenly, very aware that they were in the presence of something far more dangerous than they'd initially realized. [music] Before the tension could escalate further, a new voice interrupted. My, what an interesting scene. A tall man with gravity-deying silver hair and a mask covering half his face appeared in a swirl of leaves. His visible eye was fixed on Kusha with poorly concealed fascination and weariness. You must be Kusha Sanan. I'm Kakashi Hataki. I'll be leading team 7. Copy Ninja Kakashi. Kusha acknowledged the one who possesses Shahingan despite not being Aiah. Reputation as skilled and dangerous. Shinobi also reputation for being perpetually late. Which will it be today? Kakashi's visible eye crinkled in what might have been amusement. I prefer to say I arrive precisely when I mean to now. Then I believe I should meet with my team alone. No offense, but teacher student dynamics work best without outside observers. None taken. I leave him in [music] your hands. Kusha turned to Nar. Tonight, training ground 44 after sunset. Bring only yourself. We prepare for trial. Then she was gone, vanishing into the trees with barely a sound. Well, Kakashi said after a moment. That was certainly something. Now then, why don't you three introduce yourselves? Name? Likes, dislikes, dreams for the future. You first, Pinky. The introductions were awkward and revealing. Sakura's interest seemed to revolve entirely around Sasuke, which made Nar roll his eyes. Sasuke's introduction was dark and focused on revenge against his brother. And when it came to Naruto's turn, I'm Naruto Uzumaki. I like ramen training with Kusha and proving people wrong. I dislike the 3 minutes it takes for ramen to cook and people who judge others without knowing them. My dream is to become Hokag so everyone will have to acknowledge me and the alien warrior Kakashi asked mildly. How does she fit into your life? Nar hesitated trying to figure out how to explain it. She claimed me according to her culture. She says I have potential to be a legendary warrior [music] and she wants to be the one who trains me and maybe eventually we'll get married or bonded or whatever they call it. But that's way in the future and I get to choose. For now, she's my mentor and protector, claimed. Sakura looked confused. Like property? No. Like like a promise. She promises to make me strong. I promise to work hard and become worthy. It's complicated. It's insane. Sasuke muttered. You're letting some alien manipulate you. She's not manipulating me. Naruto's voice rose. She's been protecting me since I was a baby. She's the only one who ever said I was worth something. All right. All right. Kakashi intervened. Personal relationships aside, let's focus on the team. Tomorrow morning, we have our real test. Meet here at 5:00 a.m. Don't eat breakfast. You'll just throw it up. Dismissed. As they left the training ground, Sasuke and Sakura walked off together. Or rather, Sakura chased after Sasuke while he ignored her. Nar headed toward the forest of death, his mind already shifting to the survival training Kusha had promised. The sunset painted the forest of death in shades of blood orange and deep purple. As Naruto entered through the main gate, he didn't have to search for Kusha. She found him dropping from a tree with barely a whisper of sound. Good. You came on time. Shows discipline. come much to learn, little time to learn it. She led him deeper into the forest to a clearing that had obviously been used as a camp. There were various tools laid out, some recognizable and some completely alien. Survival Kushina began without preamble is about priorities. Shelter, water, fire, food. In that order, you can survive 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water, 3 hours without shelter in harsh conditions. So we start with shelter. What followed was an intensive crash course and wilderness survival. Kusha showed him how to identify suitable locations for shelter. Elevated ground to avoid flooding, protected from wind, near water but not too close. She demonstrated how to build several types of shelters using nothing but natural materials and a basic knife. Your ninja tools are useful but limited. Knife is most important tool. Learn to use it well. can build shelter, prepare food, create weapons, defend yourself, never be without good blade. She handed him a knife unlike anything he'd seen before. The metal seemed to shimmer with an iridescent quality, and the edge was so sharp it made his academy look like butter knives by comparison. This is traditional ya hunting knife. Forged from metal found only on our home world. Will cut through most materials easily. Never dulls. can channel chakra if you learn how. Is yours now take care of it, reflects on your honor as warrior. Nar held the knife with reverence, feeling the perfect balance of it in his hand. Thank you. I'll take good care of it. I promise. Good. Now practice. Build shelter using only knife and natural materials. I watch and correct. Building the shelter was harder than it looked. Naruto's first attempt collapsed immediately. His second leaked terribly when Kusha simulated rain by dumping water on it. His third was finally deemed adequate for survival but not for comfort. Better Kusha acknowledged. With practice you will improve. [music] Now water. She showed him how to identify safe water sources, how to filter water using sand and charcoal, how to purify it by boiling. She explained the dangers of stagnant water, how to recognize signs of contamination, how to extract water from plants if no other source was available. Then came firemaking. First, she made him do it the hard way. Bow drill, friction, determination. It took him nearly an hour to produce a single ember. His hands blistered and arms aching by the time he succeeded. Good. Now, easier way. She produced a small device from her equipment. Fire starter uses focused energy to ignite materials much faster. But you must know hard way first. Technology fails. Knowledge does not. Finally, as the night grew deep, came the lesson on food. You must be able to identify what is safe to eat. Plants, insects, animals must know how to trap, how to hunt, how to kill cleanly, and prepare properly. Wasted food is [music] dishonor to prey that died for you. She walked him through the forest, pointing out edible plants and poisonous ones, showing him the subtle differences that could mean survival or death. She demonstrated how to set snares for small game, how to fish with improvised tools, [music] how to identify animal tracks and predict behavior. Tomorrow you will need all of this. The howling peaks are unforgiving. Temperature drops at night. Predators hunt at dusk and dawn. Water sources are scarce. You will be tested. You will suffer. But you will survive because I have taught you how. Understand? I understand. Naruto said, his mind swimming with information. Kusha, why are you doing this? Really? You could just train me in combat? [music] Why teach me all this survival stuff? Kusha sat down, her large form somehow graceful despite the lethal power it contained. Because survival is foundation of all warrior skills. You cannot fight if you are starving. You cannot complete mission if you are dead from drinking bad water. You cannot protect others if you cannot first protect yourself. These are basics fundamentals. Everything else builds on this. She looked up at the stars barely visible through the forest canopy. Also, I want you to understand something important. Power is not just about strength or techniques. Power is about self-sufficiency, [music] about not needing to rely on others for basic needs. When you can survive alone, when you can provide for yourself under any conditions, then you are truly free. No one can control you through hunger or thirst or fear of elements. That is real power. Is that what it means to be ya? Nar asked. Being self-sufficient partly. We are also social. We hunt in packs. We support our clans. We value cooperation. But each of us must first be able to stand alone. Must be able to say I need no one before we can honestly say I choose to need you. Do you understand difference? Naruto thought about it. I think so. If you need someone because you can't survive without them, that's dependency. But if you can survive alone and still choose to be with someone, that's that's real connection. That's real strength. Kusha's mandibles clicked in approval. Exactly. You are wise beyond your years sometimes, little one. This is good trait. Warriors must be strong, yes, but also smart. Strength without wisdom is just violence. Wisdom without strength is just philosophy. You must have both. They spent the rest of the night going over everything one more time. Shelter priorities, water purification, fire making techniques, food identification. By the time dawn approached, Naruto's head was stuffed full of information. But he felt more confident. He had knowledge now. Tools. A chance. Get some sleep. Kusha instructed. Few hours at least. This afternoon, we travel to the peaks. Tonight, trial begins. Rest while you can. The journey to the howling peaks took most of the afternoon. Kusha moved through the trees with Nar keeping pace as best he could. His endurance already improving from days of brutal training. As they approached the mountains, Nar could see why they were called the howling peaks. The wind whipped through the rocky formations, creating an eerie, whailing sound that seemed almost alive. "This place gives me the creeps," Naruto admitted. "Good fear keeps you alert. Overconfidence kills." Kushin stopped on a cliff overlooking a valley. Down there, that is your proving ground. 3 days. You must build shelter, find water, hunt food, defend yourself from whatever threats arise. I will be watching from distance. I will not help unless you face certain death. Everything else you handle alone. She pulled out a small device and attached it to his jacket. Radio beacon. Do not use it unless you are truly dying. Using it before then means you failed trial. Understand? Understand? Naruto said, his throat suddenly dry. Good. She reached into her pack and pulled out a survival kit, a water skin, the knife she'd given him, a small fire starter, a length of rope, and a tarp. These are permitted. Tools are not cheating. Knowing how to use them is what matters. Everything else you must acquire from environment. The sun was setting, painting the peaks and shades of red and gold. Kusha placed a hand on Naruto's shoulder, her claws careful not to cut. You can do this, little warrior. I would not send you if I thought otherwise. Trust your [music] training. Trust your instincts. Trust yourself. 3 days then you return to me victorious and no one can question your worth. Go. Narudo took a deep breath, adjusted his pack, and started down the cliff path into the valley. He didn't look back. He couldn't. If he looked back, he might lose his nerve. The trial had begun. The first night was the hardest. Nar found a decent spot for shelter. A rocky overhang that provided protection from wind and rain. He managed to build a basic lean to using the tarp and some branches. Creating something that was at least functional, if not comfortable. Water was his next priority. He'd seen a stream on his way down, so he carefully made his way there as twilight deepened. The water was cold and fastm moving. Good signs. He filled his water skin, then used the techniques Kushina taught him to filter it through sand and cloth before boiling it over a small fire. The fire had taken him almost 2 hours to start properly. His hands were shaking from cold and nervousness, making the process even harder. But finally, he managed to coax a flame to life, and the warmth was almost worth the effort. Food would have to [music] wait until morning. He'd set some snares near what looked like animal trails, but catching anything on the first night was unlikely. His stomach growled, but he had emergency rations, [music] the dried meat Kusha had given him. He allowed himself a small portion, knowing he needed to conserve his supplies. As darkness fell completely, the sounds of the peaks became more pronounced. The wind howling through the rocks, something large moving in the underbrush, the distant cry [music] of a predator bird. Every sound made him jump, made his hand reach for the knife at his belt. This is insane, he muttered to himself. I'm 12 years old. I should be sleeping in a bed, not camping in monsterinfested mountains. But even as he thought it, part of him felt alive. More alive than he'd ever felt in the village. This was real. This was a genuine test of his abilities, his learning, his worth. No one was going to pass him out of pity or fail him out of hate. This was pure survive or fail. Simple, honest. He fed the fire another branch and settled in for a long night. The knife within easy reach [music] from a cliff overlooking the valley. Kusha watched through her biomasks enhanced vision. She could see Naruto huddled by his small fire. Could see the shelter he built. Could see his thermal signature showing he was cold but not dangerously so. pride swelled in her chest. He'd done well so far, better than she'd expected for someone with only one night of crash course survival training. The shelter was adequate. The water procurement had been textbook. The fire, while it took him too long, was properly built and maintained. She settled into a watching position, her body completely still, her senses extended. She would not interfere unless absolutely necessary. This was his trial, his test, his chance to prove himself. But if anything tried to kill him, it would have to go through her first. The hunt had begun, but she was not the hunter this time. She was the guardian, watching her claim prove his worth, and she had every confidence he would succeed. Morning came with mist rolling through the valley like a living thing. Narudo woke shivering, his fire reduced to embers. He quickly fed it more wood, coaxing it back to life, then checked his snares. To his amazement, he'd actually caught something. A rabbit dead in the snare. He stared at it for a long moment, feeling a complicated mix of emotions. He'd killed this animal. Sure, it was a trap, but it was his trap. This creature had died because of him. "Thank you," he said quietly, remembering what Kusha taught him about honoring prey. "Your death gives me life. I won't waste it. Preparing the rabbit was messy and awkward. [music] He'd watched Kusha demonstrate the process, but doing it himself was different. He made mistakes, wasted some of the meat, but eventually managed to produce something edible. The meat roasted over the fire tasted better than anything he'd ever eaten, probably because he'd earned it. Day one was about establishing routine. He improved his shelter, scouted the area for better water sources, reset his snares, identified edible plants, and mapped out the valley in his mind. Every moment was spent learning, adapting, surviving. Day two brought challenges. A mountain lion discovered his camp during the afternoon. Nar had been gathering firewood when he heard the growl. Low and threatening, he turned to see the big cat crouched on a rock above his shelter. Golden eyes fixed on him with predatory intent. His first instinct was to run. But Kusha's training kicked in. Never run from predators. It triggers Chase's instinct. Instead, he made himself look bigger, spreading his arms and his jacket. He made noise, shouting and banging his knife against the rock. He threw stones, not trying to hit the cat, but to convince it he wasn't prey. The lion watched him for what felt like hours, but was probably only minutes. Then, with a dismissive flick of its tail, it turned and patted away. Apparently, Narudo wasn't worth the effort. His legs nearly gave out from relief. His first real encounter with the dangerous predator, and he'd handled it without needing rescue. The triumph he felt was indescribable. That night, as he sat by his fire eating more rabbit and some edible roots he'd found, Naruto reflected on how much he changed in just 3 days. 3 days ago, he'd been an academy failure. Now he was a genon who'd survived alone in hostile territory. Day three arrived with rain, cold, driving rain that turned the valley into a miserable, muddy mess. His shelter leaked despite his best efforts. His fire was nearly impossible to maintain. Everything was wet and cold and [music] miserable. This was the real test, he realized. Not the skills or the knowledge, but the mental fortitude to keep going when everything was terrible. To not give up, to not hit that beacon and call for rescue, to push through discomfort and frustration and fear. He spent the day huddled under his shelter, maintaining a small fire, eating cold rations because cooking was too difficult in the rain. He practiced his chakra control exercises to pass time and stay focused. He reviewed everything Kusha had taught him, cementing it in his memory. As sunset approached on the third day, the rain finally stopped. Nar emerged from his shelter, wet and cold and exhausted, but unbroken. He'd done it. 3 days he'd survived. Kusha, he shouted to the valley. I did it. A shape detached from the shadows. And suddenly she was there, appearing as if she'd materialized from thin air. Her mandibles were spread in the widest smile he'd ever seen from her. "Yes, you did." She approached and knelt down, bringing herself closer to his level. You survived. You adapted. You learned. You proved yourself worthy of my claim, of my teaching, of your own reputation. You are warrior now, Naruto Uzumaki, not academy student. Not lucky, Jennon. Warrior. Nar felt tears prickling his eyes. He'd done it. He'd actually done it. I want to go home now and take the longest, hottest bath in the history of baths. Kusha's laugh echoed through the valley. A sound that was alien but somehow joyful. Yes, we go home. But first, she pulled out a small device and spoke into it. Kushinet to Kohaa. Trial complete. [music] Naruto successful. Returning tomorrow morning. All is well. Then she started a proper fire. One that blazed with warmth and light and produce food from her pack. Real hot delicious food. As they ate together, she told him, "Tomorrow when we return, there will be ceremony. Small one just for us, but important. You will receive mark of dark blade clan. Shows you are my claimed apprentice officially. Are you ready for this? What kind of mark? Nar asked wearily. Tattoo traditional design placed here. She touched his left shoulder where it can be concealed but is still visible to those who should know. Is permanent is commitment. Once marked, you are officially under my clan's protection. Any ya who encounters you will know you are claimed and they must honor that or face me. Naruto thought about it. a permanent mark binding him to an alien clan declaring him as Kushin's claim. It was a big step but then again everything about the last week had been a big step. Okay, he said I'm ready. Good. Then tomorrow you become more than Jennine. You become dark blade apprentice. You become mine in truth and we begin real training. Real training? What have we been doing this whole time? Cusha's mandibles clicked with amusement. Foundation basics. Now we build on that foundation. Now you learn to truly hunt. Now you learn to be legendary. As they sat by the fire, Naruto looked up at the stars and felt something he never felt before. Contentment. He had purpose. He had someone who believed in him. He had proven [music] himself. The path ahead would be hard. He knew that there would be more trials, more challenges, more moments where he questioned if he was strong enough. But tonight, in the howling [music] peaks, with an alien warrior who called him worthy sitting beside him, Nar Uzumaki knew one thing for certain. He was going to be legendary, and nothing would stop him. The return to Kenoha was markedly different from their departure. Nar walked with his head held high, his posture straighter, his movements more confident. Three days in the wilderness had changed something fundamental in him. He'd faced real danger and survived on his own merits. No lucky breaks, no demon fox power, just skill and determination. Kusha walked beside him with obvious pride. Her mandibles clicking in a rhythm he was learning meant satisfaction. As they approached the village gates, the guards stiffened but didn't raise weapons. Word had clearly spread about the alien warriors official status. Narut Uzumaki and Kusha of the Dark Blade clan. Returning from sanctioned training exercise, one guard announced formally, marking their arrival in the log. Welcome back, the other guard said. And there was something in his tone that hadn't been there before. Not warmth exactly, but respect, or at least the absence of hostility, which for Naruto was practically the same thing. They made their way through the early morning streets toward Kushina's apartment. Most of the [music] village was still asleep. But those who were awake stared openly at the odd pair. Nar ignored them. He had more important things to think about, like the hot bath he'd been fantasizing about for the past 3 days. First, you clean, Kushina said as they entered the apartment. Then you eat proper meal. Then you rest. This afternoon, we perform marking ceremony. Tonight you meet with your team for their test. Tomorrow, real training schedule begins. What's Kakashi sensei's test going to be like? Nar asked as he headed straight for the bathroom. Unknown, but likely designed to test teamwork and thinking rather than just fighting ability. Yokag chooses Jonan instructors carefully. They are teachers first, warriors second. He will push you to grow, not just to fight. Be ready for anything. The hot bath was every bit as glorious as Naruto had imagined. He soaked until his fingers pruned, washing away three days of dirt, sweat, and mountain rain. When he finally emerged, he found fresh clothes laid out. Not his usual orange jumpsuit, but something different. [music] Black pants, a dark blue shirt, and a jacket that looked like a hybrid between ninja gear and something more tactical. "What's this?" he called out. "New clothes. Your orange jumpsuit is loud. Impractical for actual shinobi work. These are better. Allow movement. Provide some protection. Don't announce your presence to everyone within a mile. Kusha appeared in the doorway. You are warrior now. Dress like one. Naruto put on the new outfit and looked at himself in the mirror. He looked different, older somehow, more serious. The headband on his forehead gleamed, and for the first time, he actually looked like a real ninja. I look cool, he admitted. You look capable. different thing. Cool is vanity. Capable is reality. Focus on reality. Breakfast was another of Kusha's Alien Ninja Fusion meals. Eggs and rice, but seasoned with spices that made his mouth tingle pleasantly along with some kind of protein bar that tasted surprisingly good and apparently contained enough nutrients to fuel a full day of training. "Tell me about the marking ceremony," Naruto said as he ate. "What exactly happens?" Kushina sat across from him. Her massive form somehow fitting into the normalsized chair. Marking ceremony is formal declaration of clan apprenticeship. Among my people, it is important ritual. I will use traditional tools to inscribe dark blade clan symbol onto your shoulder. The process is [music] painful, but pain is part of meaning, shows commitment, shows willingness to endure for honor of being claimed. How painful are we talking? Nar asked nervously. Very, but you have endured worse and pain is temporary. Mark is permanent. Symbol of your place in clan hierarchy of my claim on you. Of protection you receive. Any Yaoa who sees this mark will know you are under dark blade protection. To harm you is to challenge entire clan is powerful thing. Little warrior. Will other Ya come to earth to challenge you or me? Perhaps my clan knows I am here that I have made claim. Some approve, some disapprove. Eventually some may come to judge for themselves. See if human truly has worth or if I have been foolish. When they come, you must be ready. Must prove yourself worthy not just to me but to them. That is why training is so important. Naruto absorbed this. The weight of it settling on his shoulders. He wasn't just training to be a ninja anymore. He was training to represent an entire alien clan's judgment. No pressure at all. After breakfast, Kusha began preparing for the ceremony. She pulled out equipment Naruto had never seen before. A device that looked like a tattoo gun, but made of that same iridescent metal as his hunting knife, small containers of what appeared to be luminescent ink, and various ceremonial items, including what looked like a small braier. We performed ceremony in private, Kusha explained. is personal moment between mentor and apprentice. Later you may show mark to others if you choose but ceremony itself is sacred only we witness. She lit the brazier and strange smelling smoke began to fill the room not unpleasant but sharp and oddly clarifying. Nar felt his senses sharpen his mind becoming more focused. Ceremonial incense helps with pain. Keeps mind clear. allows body to accept mark more easily. Breathe deeply. Let it work. As Narudo breathed in the smoke, Kusha began to speak in her own language. A series of clicks, trills, and guttural sounds that [music] seemed to resonate in his chest. It was strange but not frightening. If anything, it felt ancient, important, like he was witnessing something that had been done for thousands of years across countless worlds. Remove shirt. Sit. Naruto did as instructed, sitting cross-legged on the floor while Kusha prepared the marking device. She knelt beside him, her clawed hand gentle on his shoulder, positioning him correctly. Dark blade clan symbol represents three things, she explained, showing him a design on a small tablet. Strength of hunter, wisdom of elder, honor of warrior, three blades crossing at center point, surrounded by circle of clan unity. When you bear this mark, you carry these responsibilities. You must strive for strength, seek wisdom, maintain honor, remain loyal to clan. Do you accept these responsibilities? I do, Naruto said, his voice steady despite his nervousness. Then we begin. Do not [music] move. Pain is part of process. Endure. The first touch of the marking device felt like a line of fire being drawn across his shoulder. Naruto's jaw clenched, his hands balled into fists, but he didn't move. He'd survived three days in the wilderness. He could survive this. Kusha worked with careful precision, her massive hands surprisingly delicate. As she inscribed the design, she continued speaking in her language, what Narut assumed was some kind of ritual prayer or blessing. The pain was intense, but not unbearable. It felt purposeful, meaningful, like each line of fire was writing a promise into his skin. Time seemed to blur. The incense smoke, the pain, the rhythmic clicking of Kusha's voice, all merged into a strange meditative state. Nar found himself thinking about what he wanted to be, who he wanted to become. Not just Hokag, though that was still his dream, but what kind of person he wanted to be. Strong enough to protect others, wise enough to make good decisions, honorable enough to be trusted. "It is done," Nar blinked, coming back to full awareness. He looked down at his shoulder and gasped. The tattoo was there, intricate and beautiful. Three stylized blades crossing at the center, [music] surrounded by a perfect circle. But the ink, it seemed to shimmer, catching the light in ways that normal tattoos didn't. Some lines glowed faintly blue. Others seemed almost to move under his skin. The ink contains trace amounts of ya bioluminescent compounds. Kusha explained in darkness or when you channel chakra through it, it will glow. Serves as identification and as reminder of your commitment. How do you feel? Like I'm carrying something important. Naruto said honestly. Something that matters. Good. Because you are. Kusha placed her hand over the fresh mark, her palm covering it completely. By the traditions of the Dark Blade clan, I mark you as mine, my apprentice, my claimed, my responsibility. Your victories are my pride. Your failures are my shame. Your death would be my dishonor. I bind myself to your growth and your future. This, I swear, the formality of it, the weight of the words made Naruto's throat tighten with emotion. I I don't know what to say. Say nothing. Show through action. That is warrior's way. Kushina applied some kind of healing salve to the fresh tattoo and immediately the burning pain began to fade. Mark will be sensitive for a few days but will heal quickly. Keep it clean. Do not cover it constantly. Needs air to heal properly. And wear it with pride. You have earned it. Before Narut could respond, there was a knock at the door. Kusha's head tilted, her senses identifying the visitors. Yohokag and another [music] old powerful chakra signature dangerous but controlled. She opened the door to reveal her and surprisingly Jeriah of the Sanin. The legendary ninja's eyes widened when he saw Kusha and even more when they landed on Naruto's fresh tattoo. "Well," Jeriah said with a low whistle. "That's certainly something you don't see every day." An alien warrior marking a Ginuriki as her apprentice. And here I thought my research was comprehensive. Jeriah Haren said with a warning tone, we discussed this. Right. Right. Professional visit. Got it. Jeriah turned to Naruto with a more serious expression, kid. I'm one of the people who helped seal the ninetailes inside you. I'm also your godfather, though I've been a terrible one by being absent most of your life. That's That's something I need to apologize for. [music] Naruto stared. Godfather? I have a godfather. Why didn't anyone tell me? Because I asked them not to, Jeriah admitted. I thought I thought you'd be safer if people didn't know about your connection to me or your parents. I thought I was protecting you, but I was wrong. I was a coward who ran from responsibility. I'm sorry, Nar. My parents? Naruto's voice cracked. You knew my parents? Herzen sighed heavily. Naruto, there's a lot we need to tell you. Things I should have told you years ago. But with recent events, he glanced at Kusha. It seems secrets are becoming harder to keep. Perhaps that's for the best. Your father, Jeriah said, [music] his voice gentle, was Manato Namikes. The fourth Hokag. Your mother was Kusha Uzumaki. He paused, looking at the Yao warrior with an odd expression, which makes the fact that you chose that name interesting. Alien Sand Kushina's mandibles clicked. I did not choose randomly. I researched the child's history when I decided to make my claim. His mother was warrior by all accounts, strong, fierce, protective. I honored her memory by taking her name when I revealed myself. Seemed appropriate. Nar felt like the world was tilting. The fourth Hokag was my father. Why didn't anyone tell me? Why did everyone treat me like trash if my dad was a hero? Because your father had enemies, Harros explained. If they knew you were his son, they would have targeted you. We kept it secret to protect you. But your right to be angry. We should have told you sooner. Should have given you the choice to know your heritage and the Ninetales. Nar demanded. My dad put it in me. Your father sacrificed his life to seal the ninetailes in you because he believed in you. Jeriah said he believed you could control its power. Use it to protect the village. He saw you not as a prison but as a hero in waiting. His last words were about how proud he was of you. How much he loved you. Naruto felt tears streaming down his face before he even realized he was crying. All his life he'd wondered about his parents, wondered why they'd abandoned him. And now to learn his father had been the village's greatest hero, that he died protecting everyone, including his own infant son. A large hand settled on his shoulder. His unmarked shoulder, careful of the fresh tattoo. Kusha's voice was surprisingly gentle. Your parents gave you great gift and great burden. Power to be legendary, but also responsibility to be worthy of that power. They believed in your potential. So do I. So does your godfather now that he has stopped being coward and returned? So does your hokag. All that remains is for you to believe in yourself. I'm sorry I wasn't there, Jeriah said, kneeling down to Naruto's level. I'm sorry you grew up alone, hated without knowing [music] the truth. But I'm here now, and if you'll let me, I'd like to be part of your life to teach you, to help you, to be the godfather I should have been from the start. I already have a teacher, Naruto said, gesturing to Kusha. And I have no problem with that, Jera said quickly. I can see she's done more for you in a few days than I did in 12 years. I'm not trying to replace her. I just I want to be there for you in whatever way you'll let me. Narud wiped his eyes trying to process everything. His father was the fourth Hokag. His mother was Kusha Uzumaki. He had a godfather who was one of the legendary Sanin. And he had an alien warrior who' marked him as her clan apprentice. His life had gone from lonely orphan to complicated beyond belief. Okay, he said finally. Okay, you can [music] you can be part of my life. But you have to prove yourself like Kusha [music] made me prove myself. I'm not just going to accept you because of blood or responsibility. You want to be my godfather? Earn it. Jeriah's smile was sad but genuine. Fair enough, kid. More than fair. I'll earn it. I promise. Hi cleared his throat. There's another reason we came today. Kakashi has requested to move the genine test to this evening instead of tomorrow morning. Something about wanting to observe how Naruto performs after his trial. Also, the council wants to meet with both you and Kusha again. There are concerns about the marking ceremony. Let them be concerned. Kusha said flatly. Mark is done. Cannot be undone. Nar is officially dark blade apprentice now. If council has problem with this, they may take it up with me. I will explain very clearly why their concerns are irrelevant. I figured that would be your response, Harosen said with a hint of amusement. Nevertheless, politics must be navigated. We meet tomorrow morning. For now, Naruto, focus on your team test. Jeriah and I will handle the council. After they left, Naruto sat in silence, his mind reeling. Kusha gave him space, busying herself with cleaning up the ceremony items. Finally, she spoke. Your father was legendary warrior, hero of village. This is honor and burden both. People will expect much from you. Will compare you to him constantly. will judge you by his standards. This is unfair but unavoidable. How will you handle it? Nar looked at the fresh mark on his shoulder, then at Kusha. By being myself. My dad was great and I'm proud to be his son. But I'm not him. I'm Naruto Uzumaki, apprentice to an alien warrior, Ginuriki of the Ninetales, future Hokag. I'll make my own legend. Kusha's mandible spread in a fierce, [music] proud smile. Perfect answer. Never lose that spirit, little warrior. Now rest for a few hours. Tonight you show your team what you have learned. Tomorrow we face council and begin advanced training. The easy part is over. Real challenges begin now. Training ground three at sunset looked different somehow. Maybe it was Naruto's changed perspective after 3 days in the wilderness. Or maybe it was the knowledge that his father, the fourth Hokag, had probably trained in places like this. Either way, he felt different approaching it. Sasuke and Sakura were already there, looking tired and annoyed. Apparently, Kakashi had made them wait all day again. "Nice of you to show up dead last," Sasuke said, but there was less venom in it than usual. His eyes [music] fixed on Naruto's new clothes and the fresh tattoo visible on his shoulder. What's that [music] clan mark? Naruto said simply shows I'm apprentice to Kushin's clan. Also, I'm not dead last anymore. I'm a Jennon, remember? Got promoted early through cheating, Sakura muttered, though she too was staring at the tattoo. What does it mean? It means I'm under the protection of an alien warrior clan that's been hunting across the stars [music] for thousands of years. It means I've proven myself worthy through survival trials. It means Naruto paused, realizing he was being defensive. It means I'm serious about becoming strong. Really strong. Before anyone could respond, Kakashi appeared in his signature swirl of leaves. Yo, nice to see you all here. Naruto, I heard about your trial. Congratulations on surviving. Thanks, Sensei. Now then, let's talk about your real test. Kakashi pulled out two small bells attached to strings. Your mission is simple. Take these bells from me before noon tomorrow. Those who failed to get a bell will be sent back to the academy. But there's only two bells, Sakura protested. Correct. Which means at least one of you will fail. Possibly all of you. Kakashi's visible eye crinkled. This is a test of your abilities, your creativity, and most importantly, your ability to work together. Begin. He vanished in a blur of movement. Naruto's instincts, honed by three days of survival and constant sensory training with Kusha, kicked in immediately. He dove to the side just as Kana embedded themselves in the ground where he'd been standing. "Scatter," he called out. "Don't group up. He'll take us all at once." To his surprise, both Sasuke and Sakura actually listened, spreading out into the training ground. Naruto activated his new favorite technique, shadow clone jutzu. 20 copies of Narut appeared, immediately fanning out to search for Kakashi. It was a trick Kusha had taught him. Use overwhelming numbers to flush out hidden enemies. From the trees, Kakashi watched with genuine interest. The boy was different, more focused, more tactical. The survival trial had clearly had an impact. and that tattoo. Kakashi had heard about the marking ceremony, but seeing it in person was something else. The kid was serious about this alien mentorship. Time to test just how much he'd learned. Kakashi engaged the shadow clones, dispelling them efficiently while keeping track of the real Naruto and the other two jinnon. Sasuke was attempting to flank him, predictable but competent. Sakura was hanging back, analyzing, smart but passive. and Naruto. [music] Naruto was doing something interesting. He wasn't just throwing clones at the problem. He was using them to communicate, to coordinate. One clone would spot Kakashi and deliberately let itself be seen, drawing attention while others tried to maneuver into position. It wasn't perfect, but it showed tactical thinking. The test continued through the evening and into the night. Kakashi found himself actually having to pay attention which was more than he'd expected from fresh Jennon. They made mistakes, plenty of them, but they were learning from each encounter, adapting their strategy. As midnight approached, Kakashi called a halt. All right, that's enough. Let's talk. The three genon gathered, exhausted and dirty, but still standing. Naruto's new clothes were torn in places. Sasuke had a bruise forming on his cheek and Sakura looked ready to collapse. [music] "You all failed to get the bells," Kakashi said. "Do you know why we weren't strong enough?" Sasuke said through gritted teeth. "Wrong. You weren't working together enough. This test isn't about individual strength. It's about teamwork." "Nar, you were closest to understanding this. Your clones were trying to coordinate." And near the end, you actually attempted to work with Sasuke on a pinser attack. But you're still thinking like three individuals rather than one team. He held up the bells. In the Shinobi world, those who break the rules are trash. But those who abandon their comrades are worse than trash. This test is designed to make you choose between competing with each other and working together. Those who choose competition over cooperation aren't ready to be shinobi. So, we all fail? Sakura asked quietly. "No, you all pass." Three stunned faces stared at him. "You pass because despite the competition, despite your various issues with each other, you never actually tried to sabotage each other. You helped when you could, warned each other of dangers, and by the end, you were starting to think as a unit. That's potential. That's what I'm looking for." Kakashi's eye crinkled in a smile. Congratulations. You're officially team seven. Nar [music] felt relief wash over him, followed quickly by exhaustion. It had been a very long day. Hell, a very long week. He'd gone from academy failure to Jenn to clan apprentice to team member in less than 7 days. His whole world had been turned upside down. Get some rest, Kakashi instructed. We meet here in 3 days for our first official mission. Dismissed. As they left the training ground, Sasuke fell into step beside Naruto. "That thing you did with the clones, coordinating them, that was smart. Thanks," Naruto said, surprised by the almost compliment. "Don't let it go to your head. You're still an idiot." "But Sasuke paused, clearly struggling with the words," "Maybe you're a useful idiot. The team thing, I guess it matters." Wow, Sasuke actually acknowledged someone else's existence, Sakura said with genuine shock. Did hell freeze over? Shut up, Sakura. But there was less hostility in the exchange than before. They were a team now, a dysfunctional, barely held together team, but a team nonetheless. Nar made his way back to Kusha's apartment, his body aching and his mind full of [music] everything that had happened. He found her waiting on the balcony, her biomask off, staring up at the stars. You passed, she said without looking at him. It wasn't a question. Yeah, we're officially team seven now. Good. Team experience is valuable. We'll teach you things I cannot. How to trust others, how to function in group, how to be part of something larger than yourself. These are important lessons for warrior. Naruto joined her at the railing, following her gaze to the sky. Are you looking at your home? Up there somewhere? Yes. My clan's territory is in different star system many light years from here. I have not seen home in 12 years. Sometimes I wonder what they are doing, if they remember me, if they approve of my choices. Her mandibles click softly. But then I look at you at what you are becoming. And I know I made right choice. This is where I am meant to be. At least for now. Do you ever regret it? Staying here claiming me, giving up everything you had. Kusha was silent for a long moment. Regret [music] is useless emotion. I made choice with full knowledge of consequences. I chose you, chose this path, chose [music] this challenge. Whether it was right or wrong decision will only be known in future when I see what you become. For now, I am content with my choice. Are you? Do you regret accepting my claim? Naruto looked at the mark on his shoulder, barely visible in the dim light, but still there, permanent, and meaningful. No, no regrets. You've given me more in a week than anyone gave me in 12 years. You make me want to be better, stronger, worthy of being claimed. That's That's everything I've ever wanted. Then we are both content. Good. Tomorrow will bring new challenges. Council meeting will be difficult. They fear change, fear unknown, fear losing control. We must show them that our partnership benefits village, not threatens it. You will need to be strong, speak truth, show them who you really are. I can do that, Narudo said with more confidence than he felt. I know you can. That is why you are mine. Kusha stood, her full height towering over him, even on the balcony. Now sleep. Tomorrow we face politics. Then real training begins. You have survived wilderness. Now you must survive bureaucracy. Which is more dangerous depends on the day. Naruto [music] laughed despite his exhaustion. You're probably right about that. As he lay in bed that night, Nar thought about everything that had changed. He had a father he could be proud of. A mother whose name honored his mentor, a godfather who wanted to make amends, a team to work with, and a mark that declared him worthy of an alien clan's protection. More than that, he had purpose, direction. Someone who believed in him, not because of prophecy or responsibility, but because she'd watched him grow and saw something worth cultivating. He touched [music] the mark on his shoulder, feeling the slight warmth of healing skin, and smiled. Tomorrow would bring the council meeting with all its political complications. Then would come the real training, the advanced techniques, the path to becoming legendary. But tonight, Naruto Uzumaki, Jennine of Kohaa, an apprentice to the Dark Blade clan, simply slept the deep, dreamless sleep of someone who had proven themselves worthy and knew without question that they belong. The hunt was just beginning, but he was
