Dr Abdul Rahman:Welcome back again The Host: Welcome back Dr. Dr Abdul Rahman: We were talking about inputs yesterday The Host: Yes, and you scared us
We felt like prey for the inputs around us Remember that one of the main differences
we mentioned between personal development and myself is that I will not necessarily say what pleases the audience,
as such I -unfortunately- meant to scare you, and through you I want the father, mother
and media professionals to be scared, and those responsible for media advertisements,
billboards, magazines….etc because these inputs affect us one way or
the other whether we like it or not Thus, our job is to raise awareness
on how to deal with these inputs and we will cover this in the upcoming sessions. The Host: Speaking of fear, I heard that the advertisements
we watch either on television or on the streets contain subliminal messages so I wanted
to ask you since you understand it better, because if true, then we are exposed to these messages all day Dr AbdulRahman: Alright. Firstly, the media somewhat exaggerated the scenario to the degree of a conspiracy theory where even cartoons have subliminal scenes and what not. However, you realize that it takes great
focus to find anything in the cartoon Remember the saying “ No Mecca No Mohammed”
on the “Coca Cola” can? So there is over exaggeration here,
and I disagree with this, Whereas, is there something called
“Perception without awareness”? Yes, there is, and it has nothing to do with who did it
whether the message was intentional or not Rather if you were walking a street with
300 advertisements about a certain phone if you were not aware you will go back home troubled thinking everyone has this phone when in reality they do not, It’s the 300 advertisements This example is directed to those
who think there is a sense of exaggeration “You are exaggerating Dr. Are you telling me
that if I left my son in front of the TV everyday for two or three hours,
he will face several negative effects? Yes, that is scientifically correct and I will provide you with some scientific studies and related videos of experiments available on YouTube I will give you three or four examples, which I will narrate to you and you can watch them later The problem with receiving inputs without awareness is the possibility of deluding your senses to believe and develop affinity to something which is false The Host: How? Dr AbdulRahman: Let’s start with the sense of sight, you may come across many images
thinking you are aware of what you see focusing only on ten or twenty images
when in reality the amount of inputs were so many that a hundred images registered and had an impact The Host: Is that possible? Dr AbdulRahman: For example: Someone conducted
multiple experiments with various people in one of his experiments he brought in two designers
and requested an ad for a Taxidermy shop that is child-friendly and does not frighten them,
and he left them for 30 mins with an envelope that is not to be opened. When they were done, their ad had a bear holding a harp and two wings alongside symbolising angelic wings with the title “Animal Heaven” written in between
and the slogan “The best place for dead animals” underneath He asked them to open the envelope,
to find -shockingly- a copy of their design “How did that happen?” They asked to show him another one
with a Zoo banner on a large gate, and he had expected that too What happened? He told them “I wanted to play the same game
that you [designers] play with the public Don’t you convince people of a certain product by repeatedly
displaying it to convince the customer thinking he likes it, when in fact he doesn’t? So what did he do with the designers? He requested his staff to drive the designers past a Zoo and past a group of kids crossing the street
wearing the same picture they used and past a harp So their eyes perceived all these things,
while they thought they were in control But in reality they did exactly
what they were shown So you can imagine what governments do to their people. There is an important book titled (The Mind Managers)
By Herbert Schiller where he talks about how governments direct their people
and convince them of certain things [...] I will give you an unfortunate example: The egyptian media lately started using the “Street Slang”
dialogue in their shows to the point of standardising it A conservative individual might
eventually use this language, why? Because of the continuous exposure, -I will not go into whether this is a conspiracy theory or not- But what I do know is that there is an unusual
amount of similar messages [...] For example, the hero with foul language, that does not pray and has multiple relationships The Host: Reckless rascal Dr Abdul Rahman: What? The Host: Reckless rascal Dr Abdul Rahman: Reckless, exactly, so it's natural to see youth wanting to
shave their heads or dress like him The producers then say “We just want to teach the kids
that this character was not a good person but realised his wrongdoings and repented in the end.
in the last two minutes of a thirty episode show” Really? Are you joking? After twenty nine episodes and a half,
this final half will fix everything? Imagine then what these inputs can do when messing around with sexual instincts, self control and possession...etc There is another video by the same person
we spoke about earlier, but a more alarming one He presented a workshop to a group
claiming it is about “influencing others” During the workshop there was always
a green background,a song “Can you feel it”, along with quotes like “Just do it” and “Go for it”
"Don't let anyone get in your way” The Host: Motivational... Dr Abdul Rahman: Supposedly it is motivational. Eventually, they went down to an empty street where there was a security guard was leaving
from a bank with two bags to a green car a “Just Do It” ad, and a car passing by at the same time
playing “Can you feel it... can you feel it”. Out of the four remaining contestants,
three robbed the security guard -of course this person was an actor- but it shows you the danger of the inputs
that he introduced with motivations they were not aware of, which turned them from a boss and
an employee at a post office to thiefs This shows how nations change and how customs change and how we reached to a stage -like I mentioned yesterday- where we accept nudity 60 years ago when you watched hollywood classics you’d see women covered even in their homes they would dress modestly How did we reach a stage where nudity has become the norm? How did we reach a stage where noise has become the norm? Music is everywhere. In the shopping complexes… music TV shows… music In the news… music Sometimes you even find the azan [Call to prayer] played with Oud in the background so you feel a yearning that makes you cry All this talk didn't come from nothing, rather it was pushed
until we developed affinity to these inputs So the question here is: Do these inputs have an impact? All that passed was about vision Hearing: when a particular word
is repeated more than others you find at the end -as they say- that it stays on the tip
of your tongue because you got used to it. How do thieves pic kpocket?
By getting your body used to a particular touch They stay next to you in public transportation
and you become familiar with it, that there is a passenger next to you getting closer
and “touching you” when in fact he is robbing you and you think that it is because
of the crowdedness but you got used to it to a point that you are being robbed without realizing This is why I always ask a question here: What on earth are these inputs that we developed so much affinity to that principles are being transgressed, creeds stolen, ethics scraped and we think there are no problems? The Host: This episode scared us more Dr Abdul Rahman: In sha Allah it won’t scare
us anymore if we know there is a solution which is for the person to learn the skill of pausing: learning how to pause at inputs, breaking them down & screening them Do you want me to scare you even more? The Host: Go ahead Dr Abdul Rahman: I have so many divorce cases due to one or both partners allowing themselves be impacted by certain inputs,
that changed their way of thinking and lead to divorce The Host: How? Dr Abdul Rahman: I remember I was once at
(6th of October city) and a lady came to me saying
her husband won’t approach her At that time I was between (Al Mehwar)
and (6th of October city) and you know that road is filled with advertisements
We’re in the city of advertisements the ads of so-and-so actress, flashing lights..etc I told her: “Does your husband pass by Al Mehwar? She asked “Why?” I asked: “Does he?”. She said: “Of course, everyday.” I said: “You are welcome” I told her “Your husband compares you daily
to tens of images prettier than you -that are photoshopped- so even if you were a beauty queen he won’t care” How was I sure of what I was saying? I called the man, told him that I have one request that he understands what I am saying
and lowers his gaze as much as possible I remember I travelled and came back after 6 weeks and the couple called me to thank me. After this, I started making a clear request to people
when they come to the clinic: Turn of so-and-so movie channel
I asked people to turn it off because they got used to keep it on for “action” But in reality the inputs are entering and he’s comparing the Hollywood blonde beauty then looking at the person sitting next to him [his wife] What would you do them?
Same thing for the wife She compares herself and her beauty and her husband swears that he loves her and finds her beautiful She replies: “You are joking, my looks are not like so-and-so” “What do I care about so-and-so?!” So she also falls victim to all these inputs Imagine the boys and girls that compare themselves with what they have been subjected
to due to these inputs. How would it also be when
these inputs are human beings? My friends, and what is known as
“peer pressure” or “majority influence” The Host: Alright Dr., can you summarize the dangers that we saw in a message to advise the youth, parents and media influencers? Dr Abdul Rahman: First of all, parents be weary of the media in general, TV, graphic novels, books and all of that You must be cautious of what enters your house I am from those who say the TV
should be kept off unless it's necessary and to be kept in the corner
not in the middle of the room or at the top like an idol statue Notice what is happening at homes:
the first furniture they think of is the TV It is placed in the middle of the room and dictates where other pieces
are placed: the dining table etc.. It became an idol statue. But the more important message
in my opinion is for media influencers You are basically input producers, So by God, fear Allah with the inputs
you are introducing to us and know what other inputs they are connected to because in reality everything we receive influences us And there is an important message
to those who call themselves “Islamic Media”: - “Dr., media is influential... let’s use it!” Dr Abdul Rahman:- Excellent, drugs are also very influential Dr Abdul Rahman: How about we use them? The Host: Of course not. Dr Abdul Rahman: Why shouldn't we use it?
It is influential and impactful and makes
people open up their minds so that we put in what we want! No… Because in Islam the end doesn’t justify the means Islam wants people to wake up If you have media that
makes people wake up then you are welcome,
but media that makes people sleepy and drugged, then there is no good in this media. The Host: With all these inputs and their dangers, isn't it better to ignore them? Dr AbdulRahman: Of course not,
we said the meaning of “ignoring” is to let the inputs enter while you’re unaware What we want is “Ignoring +”, which is? We’ll talk about this in another session... It means that I ignore while being
aware of what is happening I am aware, I am not ignoring
while not knowing what is happening Meaning that there is a difference
between “awareness” and “unawareness” and we can talk about this
during another visit in sha Allah The Host: The next session in sha Allah. Dr Abdul Rahman: In sha Allah. The Host: Thanks Dr.
