so I'm just not a big fan of food trucks I think they're overpriced it takes forever and the food just never tastes that good but for some reason everyone I know seems to love them and according to this article people have spent over $2.4 billion at food trucks just this year that's insane so today I'll be trying a few of America's most famous food trucks to see if there's something I'm missing out on or I'll just prove that food trucks suck after all and this journey begins at verac Cruz all natural so I'm in Austin Texas right now which which happens to be ranked one of the top three most popular cities for food trucks in the US okay so I'm not actually sure I can call this a food truck since it's a bus I guess it's a food bus I I don't know regardless of what you want to call it this food truck is very special since it's actually been named one of the top five food trucks in America by the Food Network on that note let's go get some tacos now verac Cruz has a ton of different food options to choose from but they're the most famous for their migas breakfast taco now I don't know about y'all but it looks like the perfect time for breakfast hey how's it going what can I do with you can I do two migas tacos please anything that will be it okay so I found a place to sit and it's looking like there's going to be a 15 to 20 minute wait for my food which honestly isn't bad especially since I didn't have to wait in any line at all the total for the tacos came out to be a little over $15 which means each Taco costs just about $55.50 these are on the pricier side especially for breakfast tacos but who knows maybe it'll just taste amazing and I'll I'll be forced to shut up and stop complaining we'll see while I waited for my food one thing I will admit that's really cool about food trucks is that they're usually around other food trucks it's basically an outdoor food court there's also lots of dogs since everyone's outside big fan of that got the text my food is ready hello uh picking up for Dylan Dylan yeah thank you appreciate it the tacos have been acquired the school bus behind me and the brown paper sack kind of makes me feel like I'm on a school field trip but that's okay also the sun came out so I can like hardly see in front of me let's see what's in the bag Taco one taco 2 and salsa the sun being out makes this look glorious it's just shining on the foil all right here we go bada bing bada boom wo that is a thick boy cheese pull alert so this Taco has seven ingredients eggs tortilla chips Montery jack cheese cilantro tomato onion and avocado this is going to be a very filling breakfast without further Ado it's time to see if this first food truck is any good spicy too much salsa oh my God so I fear I put way too much salsa on the taco and was not able to actually taste the taco because it was too spicy one moment I got a juice I don't care if the juice is green anything to curb the spice this is pretty good juice it did cost me like $9 which is more than the actual tacos but it did its job luckily I ordered a second Taco for a redo non-spicy green salsa cheers thankfully this time around I could actually taste all of the ingredients in the taco and here's the thing I have good news and I also have bad news the good news is I can tell that everything in this Taco was cooked well all of the ingredients are fresh the bad news is it's lacking a little flavor even with the salsa the salsa helps but honestly I feel like the rest of the ingredients just need a little more seasoning and look I don't want to be a hater and complain a bunch since one I'm not a professional food critic literally just a guy and two it's really not a bad Taco at this point I'm just wondering if my expectations were just a little too high since this food truck is supposedly one of the top five food trucks in America according to the Food Network with that being said do I think this food truck is worth it my answer is inconclusive the food was a little pricey but it came out quick and the taco was cooked very well it just need needed more seasoning this was hard for me because I don't think I've ever rided anything inconclusive before in my life but sometimes that happens while I was leaving an Austin local stopped me and said I had to get coffee from one of the food trucks here called desnudo because apparently best coffee I feel like that's an exaggeration but there was a massive line so I gave it a shot 30 minutes later thank you really good I don't know if it was worth the line [Applause] [Music] all right y'all so the last food truck I went to was pretty normal considering it was basically just a taco truck but the one currently behind me is a little more interesting because it specializes in only one thing bananas this is banana Archy Austin's famous frozen banana stand it's got a whopping four and a half stars on Yelp and only a single onear review what's even crazier is that the one star review wasn't even about the food being bad this lady named Riley was just super angry because she arrived as the food truck closed and she couldn't order that's insane there is no way this food truck is worth all of the hype it's literally frozen bananas but you know what I'm still going to try to review it and be as unbiased as humanly possible so let's go get dessert before I got in line I took a quick peek at their menu so basically how this works is you can either customize your own frozen banana for $4 to $5 plus another charge for any extra toppings or pick one of their specialty bananas that start at about $6 minimum $6 bro to put things in perspective one banana at Walmart costs around 26 which means this frozen banana costs 23 times more I don't care how good these bananas are the upch charge is insane I walked up to place my order but I still wasn't sure what to get so I decided to ask what's your favorite banana I really like the Texas twostep I'll get the Texas twostep then I trust you the banana has been ordered I'm I'm pretty sure it's going to come out quick because let's be honest waiting longer than 5 minutes for a frozen banana would be insane thank you that was fast wow this was like $7 so obviously I was a hater at first but I do have to admit this looks pretty good it's dipped in chocolate covered with pecans and toffee sprinkled with some cinnamon then then [Music] D is someone okay then drizzled with peanut butter the only weird thing about this is that the frozen banana comes on a plastic spoon I don't know why it doesn't just come on like a wooden stick a plastic spoon feels a little wasteful but who am I to judge here we go I did not know what to expect from this but this is way tastier than I thought it'd be all of the toppings added a nice crunch since the frozen banana ended up with a creamy ice cream like texture it is very sweet which I don't love I definitely don't think I could finish the entire thing otherwise I'll just get a mouthful of cavities but this is acceptable as a midday sweet treat but is is it worth it I cannot justify the upcharge on a banana I was pretty full after both of those food trucks so I decided to do a little sightseeing it was pretty cool to see the capital building along with Austin's famous bat bridge but what I was the most shocked to see was how many random food trucks there were everywhere according to the internet there are over 1,200 food trucks just in the city and what's even more insane is that there's a chance your personal information could be stolen by a hacker if you're connected to the public Wi-Fi at any any of these food truck spots but don't worry I got you covered all thanks to the sponsor of this video nordvpn as you can probably tell I travel a lot so whenever I connect to the wi-fi at a hotel a coffee shop whatever I make sure to use nordvpn that way all of the data between me and every website I visit is completely encrypted and safe from anyone trying to steal my info and if that's not enough with nordvpn you can make your internet connection look like it's coming from anywhere in the world that's literally my favorite part because it lets me watch Netflix shows that are only available in other countries for example if you love the show Friends sadly it's not available on us Netflix but it's available on UK Netflix so with just a click of a button you can watch friends again right now nor VPN is having a huge Black Friday sale and when you use my link you'll get a huge discount on a 2-year plan plus four additional bonus months you can get this at nordvpn.com foodie this is risk-free with nord's 30-day money back guarantee and it's the best deal you can get on the internet again you can get this at nordvpn.com Foody or the link in my description box below now obviously I understand the hype behind nordvpn but unfortunately I still don't get the hype behind food trucks I am meeting up with someone at the next Food Truck spot so hopefully they can help me understand cuz they love food [Applause] [Music] trucks so I just made it to the next food truck location and the person I'm meeting up with just parked to so let's go say hi where did he park I think he's over there hey Dyan hi so this is my cousin Ethan he lives in Austin and he's what you'd call a food truck connoisseur Ethan how often do you go to food trucks I go to food trucks about every single day here in Austin I don't understand how that's possible because so far my food truck experience has been pretty mediocre but since you recommended this place I'm going to trust you and I hope that it is something special so this is patries did I say that right yeah all right cool just making sure this food truck specializes in Italian food it's been featured on multiple websites from around the US promising pasta made from scratch and homemade sauces from old Family Recipes so Ethan's been here a bunch of times what would you recommend I would definitely recommend their garlic bread and their patric's red sauce with their meatballs that sounds pretty good but the thing is I've been to Italy and honestly there is no restaurant in Texas that even compares to the food there so it is a little hard to believe that Italian food from a food truck will be any good honestly at this point I I'm just trusting Ethan hey how's it going good good I'll get the Petri red sauce and then the garlic bread red sauce for the meat yeah perfect thank you the total for Two Plates of patrizi's red sauce with meatballs garlic bread and the tip came out to a little over 60 bucks which is very expensive for a food truck even though it's Italian food our food has been ordered number 21 stop bumping into me Ethan and I spent a little time catching up while we waited for our food and he let me in on some petre's history it turns out the patrizi family actually owned a fullon Italian restaurant in Bowmont Texas back in the 1940s and those same family recipes from back then have been passed down to use at this truck garlic bread here for you awesome thank you so the garlic bread has officially been acquired and uh okay this does not look like any garlic bread I've had anywhere before so here we have perfectly toasted faka bread with garlic coni topped with grana Padano cheese garlic oil and fresh herbs plated beautifully on a paper plate Cheers Cheers oh that is garlicky this will scare a Vampire the garlic is definitely sharp I don't know if that's like the right foodie word it's like spicy it's not spicy it has like a punch yeah sure whatever you want whatever I think I like it so far patries is off to a good start however it did take a while before the rest of the food came out I'd say 30 minutes or so but I'm assuming it's because they got really busy pasta time so this is the patrizi red sauce it's one of their family recipes made with pork trimmings herbs grana Padano cheese along with some meatballs which Ethan says are very good the one weird thing about this pasta though we're pretty sure they put green onions on it as far as I know green onions aren't a typical garnish for traditional red sauce pasta if you're Italian though let me know cuz I'm honestly not sure all right Ethan we waited a good amount of time for this hopefully it was worth the wait Che cheers how oh we actually didn't spill nice H okay the first thing I want to point out this does not taste like canned sauce so I'm happy about that especially considering this place promises homemade sauces the handmade noodles were soft but still had a nice bite to it and the sauce tasted pretty Balan it wasn't too tomatoey which I liked as for the meatballs I had to pay extra I'm hoping they're worth the money Bona Petit H not my favorite meatball but not terrible overall I'd say this pasta was pretty good it definitely beats a few other Italian restaurants I've been to in Texas which I'd consider a win so we completely devoured all of the food and I am very full now that we are officially done with patries it's finally time to decide whether or not this food truck was worth it I cannot believe I'm saying this because of how expensive it was but I think this food truck was actually worth it I'd probably come back now it's getting pretty late and I have a flight to LA in the morning in order for me to visit the most famous food truck in America so I should probably get to sleep but before that Ethan has one more food truck he wants to take me [Applause] [Music] too so now we're at gordos gardos no no gordos it looks like gardos I don't know how to pronounce the name of this food truck but to my knowledge it's a dut food truck right yep all right Ethan why did you bring me here I love this food truck it is my favorite dessert place in Austin it's so good yes I can't lie late night Donuts do sound pretty good but I did go to bananarchy not the greatest food truck to say the least but I trust you okay we'll give it a shot so gordos is built inside an old Airstream travel camper which makes it the coolest looking food truck I've been to so far and I think my favorite part about is this bumper sticker that just says big fat Donuts there are so many options on the menu I am overwhelmed but it smells very good right next to the truck I did notice that each of these donuts cost over $7 which is kind of expensive but Ethan said they're worth the money I decided to get the Miss Shortcake donut and Ethan got something called the ODB the donuts have been ordered it was like $18 which is uh pretty pricey but these are good right like really good yes I would say they are very very very good why don't you sound confident anymore oh my gosh I'm just monotone but these are really good all right Ethan warned me that the donuts could take a while since they're made fresh but somehow our order came out pretty fast hello thank you holy moly y'all this dut looks delicious and also this dut is huge this is the size of my head and I have a gigantic head I take back what I said $7 for a donut this big isn't that bad Ethan got the ODB which I'm pretty sure is doughnut holes doughnut holes with coconut those are huge dnut holes I know and there's a lot of them that's 1 2 3 4 7 8 9 10 11 12 you got a dozen donut holes I am very excited to try this but low key I want to try yours first yes this would be a full meal honestly yeah i' agree Cheers Cheers [Music] holy cow that's fire I don't even normally like coconut shavings but that is fantastic crispy on the outside too crispy fluffy it's creamy dude it's all the textures oh my God all right y'all let's give mine a try dude this dut is fat oh my god oh I kind of got it let's gool let's gool let's gool truthfully I didn't think something could top the donnut holes but boy was I wrong oh my God this is straight up the best dut I've ever eaten it's sweet but it's like not too sweet which you guys know that's like the best compliment you can give to any dessert this is is fire I'm still stuffed from patries but I think I've unlocked my second or third stomach oh my God this is so good we ate as much as we could unfortunately um so full yeah you good so full I feel like I gained like 10 lb just from this food truck trip Ethan is Gordo worth it of course it is 100% this is the happiest thing I've ever seen you I just had a donut and pasta this night was lit on that note I said bye to Ethan and now it's off to bed because I got a a flight in the morning okay guys I've officially made it to Los Angeles California and behind me is the most famous food truck in America this is Ki barbecue it was started in 2008 by Chef Roy Choy serves Korean and Mexican Fusion food and although it's not the first ever food truck in the world ki's success started the food truck Revolution right away the first thing that sticks out on the menu is how cheap their tacos are these tacos are only $3 that's insanely cheap especially when you consider the fact that I'm in California also I just want to point out I love how this food truck looks all of the stickers and the little graffiti on it it feels very La all right let's go get some food I got there pretty early in the day and there was already a huge line which honestly wasn't that big of a surprise thankfully it went by pretty fast can I get three short rib tacos to go that's it for you yep awesome apprciate it the tacos have been ordered and I'm excited while I was waiting the food truck got even busier but somehow my food only took 5 minutes to come out oh wow that was fast thank you I got the tacos let's go I haven't open the container yet cuz I want a live reaction let's do this together what do we got oh my Lord this looks beautiful so this award-winning Taco features double caramelized Korean barbecue short ribs a salsa made from Korean and Mexican chilies cilantro onion and lime relish and Ki sloth served over two crispy corn tortillas oh my God I wish everyone watching could smell these tacos right now because it smells fantastic holy cow look at that this is glorious cheers [Music] y'all I'm entering my happy place right now these are insane there are so many Textures in this Taco the short rib is super tender and I don't even know how to explain the salsa they have on here dude this is like a flavor bomb in your mouth I got to go for another bite oh my Lord I wish y'all could taste this this is so good Korean and Mexican Fusion food insane now even though I'm obviously a huge fan of these tacos something feels missing and I'm not sure what it is as I kept eating I thought to myself what if people don't love food trucks solely because of the food what if the weight times don't matter and what if no one cares about the price maybe food trucks are just another place to hang out with friends try different things and sometimes you can still stumble upon some really good food if that's the case maybe they're not so bad after all oh and I almost forgot I do think Ki is worth it it's really good [Music]
