I had been cleaning houses then I stopped cleaning houses due to covid got into a program working from home because that's what I was looking for they completely just shut the program down so I was laid off I already had a four-year-old and I ended up getting pregnant with twins and I couldn't figure out what I was going to do next I did not see myself being a single mom of three at 27. there's no way I can make it like I have three kids and I'm still by myself I ended up going to restore education and they told me about sa Hope Center the sa Hope Center helped families in their time of Crisis and need by meeting them where they're at and addressing those emergency needs right away but we take it a step further we build a deep Foundation of trust and then we help them identify the things that are causing poverty causing crisis causing hunger and help them create a goal-based plan based on their strengths and their Visions for their lives to help them become sustainable for the future we provide food assistance Services Housing Services we are located in four places around the city we're addressing the needs of families in proximity we're coming in and providing support services for those families when I got here what was really beautiful was we weren't just these strangers coming in and starting programs this organization had been here for a long time at that point so the roots were already really deep with these families and so we started to introduce them to financial literacy in our social workers and to our Workforce Development programs they already had a really deep trust with the organization and that's the thing we've really built in this community is really extending a helping hand a relationship of friendship and a support network when people are in times of crisis I was drowning I was like okay I'm not gonna be able to make it it was just so fast the connections that as they hope have they've signed me up for all these different programs my utilities paid my rent was paid for like three months I met with oldra and she told me about this opportunity to work from home for a bank she gave me the information I applied and I'm making fifty thousand dollars a year working for PNC Bank that's what essay hope did for me sometimes it is hard to imagine the pure when all you're doing is surviving the present and that's where the Emergency Services come in but the long-term impact comes in addressing the root causes of poverty sa Hope Center meets people where they are and walks beside them in a journey there's been so many volunteers board members countless donors tens of thousands of people in San Antonio who've impacted by this this organization doesn't just stop with those folks it continues on with their children and their grandchildren I know that I can do more because of what sa hope has done for me I can focus and create my foundation so that they don't have to struggle and go through the things that I went through there's someone out there who believes in me as they hope is literally what its name is it provides hope for for us to just keep going fake no matter what we can just keep going [Music]
