04 – Day 1 Wednesday Highlights – Sunraysia Safari 2025

Okay, stage one for Safari which gel. It's raining. Turns out pretty much everyone swapped to normal tires instead of rally tires. Damn it. But Greeny behind me is still on one. This should be fun. World to save. Look alive. Look alive. Look straight. Step one, two, make a wave. Enter the scene. There's a world to shake. You got power. >> I was counting down to the end of that stage. That was that was treacherous. Yeah, >> it is power. Undeniable power. >> That was unbelievable. That was good fun. [Music] [Applause] >> That was hard work. Very slippery. That was just ridiculous. We're no steering into the trees. Slapping the wheel around. Oh my god. I think we're the only dual drive cars to come through so far. So, we made it, which is good. Man, that was tough. [Music] That's as slippery as I've ever been. I I crossed the Simpson Desert the other month and it was raining and that was pretty ordinary. And that's that's about as good as it gets. But um no, well it's great. Great event. Well organized and um and just good competitors, good people. >> That's a stage. Jeez, it reminds me of Asia in the slick. It's It's really about reading the road. And yeah, we're pioneers, but the whole time I'm thinking, I don't know how some of the cars are going to get through. If you just make the wrong call on the brakes, you're going to slide off. And it's it's really slick. There's other sections that are okay, but it's uh it's a real challenge, that's for sure. >> You've got uh your boy right on your tail. >> Yeah, I I kept an eye on it. I'm not surprised. I mean, I was pretty tentative, but I was about a bit of survival mode in there. >> It was great fun, but there was sections in there that were complete passenger, but really glad we got to run it and uh we had a pretty good run. But early on, crossed Donny and uh Garathon about 20 or 30ks in. I think the big red big big red patrol was a bit of a handful in the wet. He went past the slug. It was still dry for him. He's a lot lighter than us. And um yeah, he's pretty experienced too, so that helped as well. >> Got a smile on your face. >> Yeah. No, it's good fun. Real good fun. That was a bit of a shock. First uh first stage, my first ever rally. >> Yeah. >> I think we turned up to make it a bit tricky. I had definitely had a bit of a bit of whoopsie. Fell over in the rut. I couldn't see with my goggles. We need to get some uh something to do about that. But we made first day. What? 3 and 1 half days to go. Hope it's not raining. The luck of the gods that you get through. You can't say it's skill. It's just luck. Because the the thing just goes where it wants and you try and back off or take it easy, but it still just floats away into the into the weeds and then you got to come back again. No, it's um that would have been a good stage in the draw. I I read a book that you wrote that suggested that everything you did was skill. >> Um apart from today today I'm going to rewrite a new chapter. >> I was uh slippery. Yeah. Interesting. Took a few branches on and it was uh trickier than I thought. >> Few moments. >> Yeah, it did. Yeah. Probably three or four pretty good ones. Yeah. That was unbelievable. The first half was incredible. Uh, good fun. Great fun. [Music] >> I need some more frontwheel drive. Uh, but no, got through. So, uh, first stage, little nerve. We're good to go. >> Another fun day in the in the slippery stuff. Yeah, we've been doing a little bit of that out there. Extremely slippery, but uh, shitloads of fun. Why don't you drive the WRX in the Sunraier? He said it'll be fun. He said it wasn't fun, but we're here and the car did amazingly well. I'm staggered that we're here. >> Uh, no, I didn't expect it to be that slippery. It was pretty hard to stay on the road. So, few excursions. So, a lot of interesting marks along the along the way. So, yeah, I'm trying to be like this for the rest of the day, but bring on tomorrow. >> Victor, tough day in the office. >> Oh, yeah. Just a little bit. I lost me goggles about 10ks in and uh couldn't see anything. So, peeled them off and as you can probably see by my face, I rode with 70ks or 70 odd KS in the in the rain and the mud and yeah, one of those things. That's brilliant. It was hard though. My eyes are burned, but uh no, it was pretty uh pretty adventurous. Few uh few sideway moments. It was pretty good. >> If there was a day that you'd be wanting to not be out on a quieter, this is it. >> See the windscreen? See the wipers? >> See them all nice and clean? It's pretty good, isn't it? >> Got any message for Victor? >> Um yeah, you can use my pressure washer when we get back to the camp. >> Oh, what the hell is he off? Can you imagine what it looked like? >> Um, yes. Yeah. Probably add an extra 40 kilos to the bike, I reckon. Pretty muddy out there. Like it was just basically just it was skady the whole way. Yeah, >> the whole way. Uh, it could be a bit wet and uh didn't help getting um coming off in the first I don't know 2ks. Okay. So, that's all good. Definitely uh lots to do when I get back.
