Why Builders Leave Bricks Sticking Out Before Locking a Strong Corner Joint

Can you believe this? In Pakistan, workers spend time building a brick wall only to smash parts of it off moments later. But here's the confusing part. If those bricks are already in place, why knock them off later? While laying bricks, the mason intentionally leaves some bricks sticking halfway out at the edge. These aren't mistakes. They're prepared in advance for a corner joint. When one wall is built first, its edge is left with staggered protruding bricks. This creates a bonding setup for the perpendicular wall that will be added later. Once the second wall is constructed, those extra bricks are partially removed or reshaped so the two walls can interlock properly. Instead of just meeting at the corner, the bricks overlap and tie both walls together. It may look like they're undoing their own work, but they're actually forming a stronger structural joint that locks both walls into a single solid structure.
