This Facebook Marketplace Food Experiment Got Insane

So, this is me at a sketchy motel about to pick up a food order [music] from a complete stranger. And you may ask, why? Because I want to see if eating food from strangers off Facebook Marketplace is actually worth it. Where people buy used cars, sketchy iPhones, and whatever this is. There's some really weird stuff on here, but there's also some good stuff, too. I'll be messaging everyone the same message, make me a plate exactly how you would eat it. And the rules are I don't know what I get, I can't change my order, and I don't know the price until I pull up. I have to pay for and eat whatever they give me. I'll be visiting seven [music] different spots, and the person at the end of the day that makes me the best plate wins this. Right now, it's just a piece of paper taped to a cardboard, but we need to find our first plate, but there's so many weird listings. Fruity Pebble infused Rice Krispies. Is that what I think it is? I haven't even started this challenge and it's already getting weird. I continued to look through the listings until I stumbled upon Nando, 4.9 stars. All his reviews were good and he replied instantly. [music] So, let's go get our first plate. And as I drove across town, I realized [music] I'm about to buy food from somebody's house that I don't even know. And when I finally arrived, I got out of the car and as I walked up to the [music] door to knock on it, I noticed >> The gate's locked. I don't know. I messaged him, so we'll see if he comes out. So, I waited and waited and waited [music] some more until finally What's up, boss man? How you doing, bro? Let me let me tell you something. That boy, he said he got a ton of orders waiting right here. And after about 10 minutes, they finally brought my order out. >> Yo, appreciate you, man. Thank you. Goddamn! So, y'all be getting a lot of orders and stuff? >> this is my first time I already done it. already out of brisket. Man, I'm going to have to find somewhere to eat this. That's a lot. >> At first this neighborhood had me on edge, but they were actually really nice, so I decided to find a spot close by to try the food out. >> Now, all this food was 40 bucks. [music] If you go eat this at Rudy's, you're going to pay about 70, 80 dollars for this. >> And it came with brisket, smoked sausage, turkey, [music] and a Texas Twinkie. I love turkey, so let's see. Looks like it's seasoned really well. That's good. It's a little dry, but nothing [music] too crazy. Now, I'll try it with the sauce. I love spicy, so I'm going to go with the spicy sauce. Oh, yeah. So, [music] with the sauce you can't even tell. I'm going now with their smoked sausage. Oh, my god. And then we have [music] what looks like to be the Texas Twinkie. It's got jalapeno stuffed with some type of rice with bacon wrapped around it. And as I was eating, a mysterious truck pulled up and asked me what I was doing. I'm I'm just eating. It turns out [music] he was looking for someone who stole a bike out of his truck. I was going to pack up the food, but decided to finish anyways. So, now the [music] main thing I'm concerned about is the hitter, which is the brisket. Mmm. Nice smoke ring on that boy. Fire. 40 bucks for all this barbecue. >> [music] >> Can't beat it. Now, I'm not going to lie. The brisket and the turkey were a little on the drier side, but the price for all that barbecue totally worth it. >> I got another message from somebody on Facebook Marketplace literally 15 minutes down the road. [music] >> So, I packed up the barbecue and headed that way, but on the way there I became really uncomfortable because So, this person actually [music] made me send them money before I even come and pick it up. For all I know, they could have gave me a wrong address and scammed me, but we're going to find out right now. While I was waiting, I noticed that all the listings on her profile were really expensive. [music] So, I decided to ask Hello. How you doing? I'm Matt. Nice to meet you. So, I got a quick question. What's the difference between Dubai chocolate and regular chocolate? Uh it's just that that one has the pistachio and the cacao bean. Okay. Okay. Thank you so much. Appreciate it. Dubai chocolate. So, I never knew the [music] difference between Dubai chocolate or the hype around it, but obviously it's because it has pistachios and taffy from what she said. So, I'm going to find a spot [music] to park and try this out. I don't really know the price of what Dubai chocolate goes for, but you know, hey. Looks like it has strawberries. I don't [music] know what that stuff is. Chocolate. Um Not sure how I'm going to eat this because it didn't come with a spoon, but let me just give it a quick [music] try just so I guess from on the top. I don't know. So, this little cup was $30, which is extremely [music] expensive in my opinion for something like this. Wow. That is good. So, [music] basically this stuff right here is super crunchy. Very good. I just wish I had a spoon. So, this next one's 40 minutes away and they just messaged me that they're ready to go. I'm really excited about this one cuz they said they were going to surprise me. >> And when I was driving, something weird started to happen. >> After I ate that Dubai chocolate, my tongue is like tingling and numb. You're going to try it? Yeah. Okay. Go ahead. I mean, because my mouth feels kind of weird after eating it. Sweet, savory, and crunchy. It did taste good, but let's see if your mouth gets numb or if I'm just crazy. Honestly, the [music] Dubai chocolate was very good and I was probably just crazy, but I still can't justify spending $30 on that. So, for me, [music] not worth it. There's an actual pickle in there? And it was $25 [music] for this. That seems like a pretty good deal because I also got a dragon fruit drink as well as the crowd scare pickled lemonade. That is really neat and really cool. So, basically you can sanitize your hands before eating, which I really truly like. This thing feels pretty heavy, and she said that this is the best in Houston. So, that's a pretty bold statement to say for somebody cooking off Facebook Marketplace. But, we're going to find out right now. [music] Let's see what she gave me. Bro, ain't no way, bro. That is insane. 25 bucks for [music] this plate. You get this plate in a restaurant, you're going to pay 60, 70 bucks. Like, come on, man. Let's [music] try it. Oh, First off, [music] the batter is extremely flavorful. It It just hits you with flavor. Yep, this is going down the hatch. I'll holler at y'all, [music] boys. Mhm. Let's not forget the two drinks she gave me. Mhm. Little balls of dragon fruit on the inside of it. I don't know if you can [music] see. So, there's actually real dragon fruit in there. Let's try the pickled lemonade. Wow. It's like sweet and [music] salty. That's interesting. I I actually really like that. As I finish my food, I realized I went into this challenge with a negative mindset, but everything so far has been amazing. Almost too amazing. Oh my god. Yo, let's hop on Facebook Marketplace [music] and see if anybody else replied and if anybody else can top this and surprise me with a plate better than this one. That's going to be hard, but hey, you never know. I still can't believe I found this on Facebook Marketplace. The lobster fried rice was amazing and the dessert was top-tier. I will definitely be back. It all felt too good to be true and I should have known what goes up Facebook Marketplace order. must come down. What the hell? Am I at the wrong address? So, I ordered from this Facebook Marketplace vendor [music] for a reason and the reason is the area. If you haven't noticed, the houses around me are extremely nice and I wanted to see if the quality of the house would change the quality of the food. Well, we're going to find out right now. I'm going to try it and let you know, okay? All right. There's a lot of stuff. All right, so she gave me [music] a lot of stuff for $45. Starting off with this pink spoon. This is seems like a cold container, [music] so it's probably like a potato salad type deal. Looks really good. I don't know if that's potato salad. Mhm. It is some type of salad. It's noodle based. Wow. Okay, I'm just going to I'm just [music] going to grab this plate see what it is. Chicken tenders with fried shrimp and fries on the bottom. Oh, this is not This is not chicken tender. This is catfish. So, we got fried catfish, [music] shrimp on top of a bed of fries. Let's try the catfish. Mhm. >> [music] >> Flavorful. Look at the fry. Look at all that seasoning on there. Mhm. So [music] good. Then we got, of course, the fried shrimp. Can't go wrong. [music] And then the next plate we have asparagus, salmon with shrimp on top. Looks like it has some type [music] of rice on the bottom right there. I don't know what's on top, but it's some type of sauce. Salmon, let's go. Oh, yeah. That's good. And then, of course, we have the dessert. Dang, that is so good. So, overall, those plates were top-tier. [music] They were all seafood-based. There wasn't any of them that did not have seafood in them. So, I don't know if you have a seafood allergy, [music] that's something you might want to be on the lookout for if you order from Facebook Marketplace. Make sure that you ask before. The food though, overall, very good. Top-tier, would definitely [music] be back. And this is where it gets a little weird because I didn't forget the question, does the quality of the house change the quality of the food? >> The heck is that? >> Because what I got at this next house was not what I was expecting. My anxiety was through the roof. I'm not going to lie, I was definitely [music] sketched out. I checked the address again to make sure it was the right one, and I didn't even know if he was coming back out. I started thinking, maybe I should just leave, and right as I was about to Oh. >> [music] >> Appreciate it, bro. Um it doesn't feel too heavy, but let's see what's in it. Before I open this, we are in the hood. This is like deep hood East side. This is Cloverleaf. First look. What the heck is that? Bro just went in the crib and just whipped something up real quick. Okay, so the grilled cheese is really hot, so it was just cooked. Is there meat [music] on there? Nope, just straight grilled cheese. Let's try it. Taste like a grilled cheese. It doesn't look too appetizing, [music] but let's try it. This sausage looked absolutely disgusting and I don't know why I was eating this, but it's not that bad. Actually, that's not bad at all. Never judge a book by its cover. And then it came with these little uh chocolate cupcakes. [music] Nothing special on those. They're just store-bought cupcakes. For 10 bucks, you get you get a bag of chips, you get a drink, [music] you get a grilled cheese, two sausages, and a dessert. It's really not that bad. So, let me know your thoughts. Does the quality of the house change the quality of the food? I really don't know what just happened. The price of the food was pretty affordable, but I just don't see myself ever coming back to get this plate. [music] So, in my opinion, not worth it. two more messages of people that have replied [music] to me on Facebook Marketplace. I just texted them to surprise me with a plate and they said, "Okay, sure." I was actually pretty excited about this next one. They had a lot of options on the listing, so I pulled up and knocked on the door and nothing. No answer. I texted them to see what was going on and that's when I got a reply, "Come to the backyard." Hey, what's up, man? I'm Matt. Nice to meet you, bro. I appreciate you replying to that my message so quick. Oh, you built this yourself? >> Yes, sir. It's a 250-gallon propane tank. Damn. 1957. It has the picture. No way, bro. It's pretty tall, too. Is that what I think it is? We got some fajita, we got some chicken, [music] we got the toppings with the chiles and the hearts. Nice, bro. We got some molcajete and two [music] frijoles. All this for 45 bucks? >> All that for 45. >> That That's fire, bro. With love and wood fire. You're more than welcome to sit down and eat it here. Here? Yes, sir. So, Facebook Marketplace is pretty [music] crazy. You can message somebody in an hour, end up in their backyard eating a [music] heart-shaped taco platter. That is pretty wild, but is it good, though? To me, it looks amazing. The presentation is amazing, the hospitality was amazing, but the key is does it taste good? So, the first thing that sticks out [music] to me is that these tortillas are homemade. They're not store-bought. That is a huge plus and a win in my book. So, I'm going to put some cilantro, some onions, some lime, the charro beans. Not only that, but he has a fresh molcajete full of salsa. So, let's go for the chicken taco first. That is very good. So, the first big difference I see in this taco compared to other tacos that I eat is, like he said, it's cooked over a flame. This has [music] deep flavor inside the chicken. So, we got some charro beans. Mhm, super flavorful. This is the beef [music] taco right here. Looks amazing. Mhm, that's fire. His tacos were amazing. [music] They were authentic. The salsa was good, the charro beans were good, and both the chicken and the beef were cooked to perfection. He takes his time and he takes pride in his work, which is the number one thing that I respect for a cook and somebody who's trying to do something for themselves. So, much love to him. He's young and he has a bright future ahead of him. These tacos were elite, authentic, flavorful, presented perfectly, and the hospitality was amazing. Definitely worth it. It was getting dark, and I still had one more stop. It started to pour rain, [music] and the whole vibe just seemed off. When I got closer, I started to realize the final destination was not your usual address. >> Wait. No. They got us going to a hotel to pick up the plate. Are they making the food out of a hotel? Look, that's where we're going [music] to pick up this plate right now. This last one is kind of crazy. We are pulling into a hotel parking [music] lot to pick this plate up, which is kind of insane. I don't know what's going on. This is where we're picking [music] the plate up from. All right. I'mma back in on this one. >> [laughter] >> I was already committed. The gravy is very spicy. [music] Let's try the pork chop though. Oh, yeah. That pork chop literally just fell. As I was eating the food, I realized you [music] really can't judge a book by its cover. Today was a very long day, but we can only have one winner. So, I'm going to think of the winner overnight and come to a conclusion and go from [music] there. >> Even though it was a little sketchy, the pork chops and étouffée was definitely worth it. After eating food [music] from strangers on Facebook Marketplace, I realized something. You'll never know unless you try.
