[Music] hey everyone I'm Ben a pgy3 here at UAB Radiology come with me on a typical day in Birmingham our residents live all around Birmingham whether you prefer downtown living or houses in the suburbs there's an option for everyone the normal commute for me and my co-residents ranges from a 5-minute walk to up to a 20-minute Drive traffic in Birmingham really isn't that bad so it's pretty manageable as residents we get free parking one street over from the hospital which is really convenient now let's head to the reading room one great thing about UAB is everything is connected whether you're on your ped's rotation in children's or on your breast rotation in Kirk Clinic everything is connected by a short walk through Sky Bridges throughout the hospital well it's almost 7:30 so it's time I log in and start my day attendings at UAB are great they offer daily one-on-one viewbox teaching UAB has most Radiology sub Specialties the pathology is diverse enough and the volume is high enough that there are enough cases to go around for residents and fellows and then on procedural rotations residents get Hands-On autonomous experience I know it's amazing awesome wow so nice well it's almost 11:30 so it's time to head to conference but first let's grab lunch there are many different dining options at UAB within the hospital like Chick-fil-A Subway and paner bread but I feel like checking out the cafeteria today residents at UAV get a 60% discount in the cafeteria and on Thursday's new conference is catered by the department now it's time for conference this starts with a short lecture followed by a break and then a case conference to follow come on conference operates off of a 2-year rotating curriculum these are valuable lectures because they do a good job preparing you for practice but also preparing you for the boards well that's it for the lecture time let's check out the Radiology education and knowledge space come on I would say what sets UAB apart from other Radiology programs is our camaraderie and there's a lot built into our daily schedule monthly schedule that really Fosters that so we have time um in the Rex where we are right now every single day where we all gather after conference and before conference um and we bu build friendships that are true and they're real um I think here at UAB what what makes it special is just the co-residents and the faculty uh co-residents super smart super nice everyone's there to help you out um and same goes with the attendings you know everyone is really eager to teach and at the same time you know they also understand that they're continuing their learning every day so we're all kind of in it together so far I love the people uh Johan's actually in my mentor family um and I love that that we have Mentor families all the way from attending every level every year um so when you come in there's somebody that you can talk to that you feel already connected with and musan was my um I guess menty that feel silly but um it's great I feel like it just gives you an excuse to hang out outside of work too it's got to be the snacks uh uh mainly because I get to supply them so we got plenty of snacks candy drinks soda whatever you need we've got it for you we're here for wellness we make sure it's high so one thing I like about the program is continuity we have um a ton of continuity between residents fellows and attendings because tons of people go through training here and end up staying um so a lot of times we'll go through our training and experience uh rotations as lower levels with various upper level residents and fellows and then as we progress we get to still work with them in the future because they stay on as a faculty I think that just goes to show that um it's a great place to train but also a great place to stay and work and it really provides um you know a great environment for Learning and um overall great days well conference is over so it's time to head back to work let's grab a coffee first we're heading back to the reading room which is where we'll be until about 4:30 or 5: which is typically the end time for most rotations but you should go ahead and get out of here thanks for joining us on a day in the life at UAB Radiology hopefully we see you in the reading room soon
