hi everyone in this video we're going to be talking through module one as well as the calendar and the assignment details itself so let's Dive Right In and we'll take a look at the document that includes all the details from module one so starting at the top here let's look at the description the primary goal of module one is to set some really strong foundations about the best practices and expectations for how to present in the digital world and this includes how we appear in our virtual space how we sound in our virtual space how we set up our backgrounds and how we utilize a particular platform which is zoom in this case to capture our content so there are a number of asynchronous and synchronous digital platforms that we can use to create share send connect with others in the virtual space in this assignment and a module one in particular we're going to focus on Zoom because it's the most accessible and in this case you can use it for free as a student and you can use it to present and capture content in a way that provides relatively high quality content at relatively little to no cost in fact you're able to get your videos downloaded to your computer and one of the things that zo Zoom does that's quite nice is it compresses those videos automatically so what might be a relatively really large file size on some other programs and platforms zoom's able to compress it right off the gate uh and it works for most settings fairly well so that's what we're going to focus on you can see here the learning objectives are outlined and those become really important when you take a look at the quiz and so one of the things that we've also provided here to help you with your module one assignment in particular some additional materials all sorts of great stuff here with some links to videos on how you can perform but what I really want to focus on here is assignment one it's worth 100 points and in this assignment we are as I mentioned earlier we're focusing entirely on the zoom platform for all the reasons that I've already listed so check this out ultimately you're going to be producing a screen recorded video similar to what I'm doing right now where you have the ability to share some content as well as I'm going to stop sharing for a moment coming on screen having a conversation with your viewers going back to being able to share the screen and to be able to show that proficiently the video should be no more than four minutes meaning it needs to be organized and efficient you've got a plan ahead for how you're going to get through your content and we want to make sure that we're adhering to that 4 minute strict time requirement down here under this bolded section assignment details is what is going to be specifically included in this assignment so what we're looking for here is as much relative detail as you can include in that 4-minute video and every single one of these bullet points that listed here should be obviously visually uh included so it should be easy for us to see and it should be narrated presented in a way somewhat similar to how I'm doing this right now where I'm walking you through a document I'm talking you through the process of how we got here in this case you're going to be making it super clear to your viewers which is myself or GA that'll be taking a look at the final evaluations and you want to show Proficiency in the setup of the zoom platform so first and foremost have you downloaded the program should be on your computer you're going to show us that you're going to show us your Zoom account bring us to your Zoom settings menu show that you've opened that and you have adjusted those settings to fit your environment to fit your sound setup your microphone your camera all the things that are behind those settings in that page I want to see that you've actually gone ahead and set your profile details up including a professional photo for your profile so it should be a head shot a recent head shot that's what people will see when you send meeting invites that what people will see when you mute your camera so it's really important that you show up in a professional sense I also want to see you upload and showcase three different virtual backgrounds and one of the things that we're looking for is the ability to have different types or styles of backgrounds okay so I consider this to be my professional background I use this in all my professional content but you also want to be able to demonstrate that you've got some range of content so maybe you have uh a Yukon husky club that you're a part of and you want to show your Yukon Pride so you've got a Yukon related background and then you might have another one for an organization that you work for maybe a hobby or interest group that you're associated with or maybe something that just kind of shows a little bit about your personality and a little bit about kind of hobbies or things you're interested in we want to see that versatility and you're going to show us each of those things and if you go through the resources the materials that are included up front all the readings Etc that are already included there are tips tricks and advice for how do you set up a virtual background really well I've got to have a lot of light on the background right I want to make sure that's it's monochromatic so actually what's behind me right now literally is a green wall with the virtual imprint going over the top of it I've got to have plenty of light on my face to create contrast between the wall and myself Etc and those are all covered and so when you set them up we want to make sure that they look good right they want to look professional I think everybody can tell relatively that this is a virtual background but the idea is to make it look professional to make it look as if you put the effort in to make it look good once we got all that stuff done we come in here to our next and final large bullet point which is showcas that you're capable of hosting a zoom meeting so you're probably going to record this separately and then put the two videos together so you're going to find a friend a family member a roommate teammate whatever it is and you're going to set up a video and we're going to be able to screen record the two people that are on camera and you're going to actually do a little quick presentation so the video itself only needs to be about 60 seconds but I want to make sure that you're able to use the screen sharing functionality so you're going to have a quick presentation on anything of your choosing any topic that you just want to present to your friend family teammate roommate whatever and we're going to be able to show that we can get through that content again we're looking for you to demonstrate high level of proficiency using the zoom platform and for many of you you're thinking yeah I've been doing this for a while that's fantastic it's it it it's something that I'm comfortable with but this course is about being able to present it right so being able to say that you're proficient is one thing being able to show it's another thing and so really the emphasis as you're thinking about how do I do well on this assignment well organized it's thoughtful the narration is clean it's clear there's not verbal fillers we're not uh we're not um we're not having these long pauses as we transition between pieces when you take that interview or that presentation piece with your with your other person that's clipped together really well it has an introduction maybe to it to show a bit of professionalism and the whole thing is uploaded to YouTube one piece on time we're able to open it watch it right away uh and be able to really appreciate the proficiency of what you've put together so that is everything that you need to know from a high level space on module one and in particular the module one assignment go back to those resources go back to the text to Chapters that are outlined use those materials to be able to kind of make sure that you are not missing any of those tips best practices and of course if you have any questions let us know
