[music] [music] [music] [music] Come on, we're here. >> [music] >> You sure about this? >> You're not afraid, [music] are you? >> No, it's just that you're married. >> Relax. He's on shore patrol. [music] [music] All >> [music] >> right. >> [music] [music] >> Dear Mr. Puit, the timing of your letter couldn't have been better. I'm doing an article on the parole system, and I've made arrangements with [music] your warden to meet with you for an interview this Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Sincerely, Hillary Wayne. [music] [music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [music] [music] [music] Heat. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. [music] Ow. She doesn't know it yet. She's going to really like me. >> I'm Alex Bruy. >> Hillary Wayne. Nice to meet you. >> It's nice to meet you. >> That's it. >> I've seen you on uh on the television. I'm a big fan of yours. I've uh I've read both your books. >> That's very kind of you, Mr. Puit. >> Oh, please call me Alex. >> Alex? Well, as I said in my letter, I'm writing an article for Cityscape magazine on the parole system, and I thought it would be interesting to get an inmate's point of view. >> Ask me anything you like. >> Do you mind if I record this? >> No. >> You're serving time for burglary and armed robbery. >> And it's your second conviction. Yeah. First time I did 18 months in county. This time I'm not so lucky. >> Well, it says here you've been in and out of foster homes as a child. I can only assume you didn't have a very stable upbringing. >> Well, except for uh Aunt Marie. That's what I used to call her. And she was my second foster mom. I lived with her for about uh I don't know about about 7 years before she died. >> I'm sorry. >> That's okay. She taught me how to take care of myself. >> Well, next week the parole board will be meeting to review your case. And in the event that you're released, have you considered the fact that your record will keep you from a good job? >> Sure. Yeah. I mean, who wants to hire next kind? Well, the governor and I are working on a program to develop job opportunities for proies, situations that will help them get back into society. >> Would you be interested in something like that? >> Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you know, what would I have to lose? >> And do you have any um special interests or or hobbies? I like to take pictures. You know, Miss Wayne, I'm not a bad person. I mean, the way I look at it is I've paid my debt in here with three years of my life, and you know, no matter what happens, I'll never get those back. All I want is, you know, a chance to start all over. That's exactly what this program will do. >> Well, you look good in red. Red is [music] definitely your color. [music] Morning, Carol. >> Morning. Brian's looking for you. He's in your office. >> Thanks. >> So, the piece ran a little long. It was worth it. >> Yeah. Tell Jameson we're thrilled. >> Hi. >> No, Hillary. She just walked in. >> Yeah, I'll tell her. Okay. Bye. >> What? Jameson loves the piece on the harvest. Circulation's going through the roof. Look at the mail. It's been pouring in. So, we want you to do a cover story. You pick the topic. Anything you like. >> Brian, I've got a book to finish. When I took this job, you said one or two days a week. Now, you want me to do a cover story? I don't have the time. >> Okay, we'll get you an assistant. >> That's not the point. >> What's that? The prison piece. You met the convict. >> Inmate, Alex Puit. Nice kid. Victim of society. >> Oh yeah, right. You think everybody is a victim of society. >> Well, maybe we are. >> Yeah. >> Listen, I have had a few ideas by the cover. So, why don't we have dinner? We could talk about it. >> Brian, whenever you want to have dinner, it usually has nothing to do with business. >> Well, can I help it if I find you absolutely irresistible? >> I thought we agreed from now on that we're going to keep our relationship strictly professional. >> Oh, come on. Hell, you know how I hate the bank. I am still not going to do the cover. >> Oh, okay. Well, at least think about it. >> No. >> Oh, please. >> No. >> Am I interrupting? >> Vicki. >> Well, if it isn't the actress. >> Clark Kent, right? >> Brian, would you excuse us, please? >> Yeah, sure. Yeah, we can talk about this later. Nice outfit there. Hi, >> baby. Mom, I sit down. So, this is a surprise. >> I thought you two broke up. >> Brian, he's just an old habit I can't seem to break. He's also not ready for a serious relationship. >> What about you? >> I'm ready. I just don't have the time. >> What's this? >> Just a little something I thought you could use. It's beautiful. >> Vicki, why don't you come live at the house with me while you're here? I've got tons of room. >> Mom, we've been over there before. If I'm going to learn the acting business in America, I need to be on my own. >> But you still can. You and just be staying with me. >> Well, Dad thinks it would be better for me to be on my own. He says that it will help me discover my inner self. >> How would he know? He's never had a decent acting job in his life. >> That's not true, Mom. >> You know, he's very well respected back in Paris. >> I'm I'm sorry. I I shouldn't have said that. It's just that you've been here for 2 months and I've barely seen you. >> Well, I just need some time. I can't stand the pressure of you and dad. All I want is to be on my own and to know that I'm good at something. >> I understand. Wow. Only came by to see if I could borrow some money. >> Sure. How much do you need? >> 400. I'll pay you back. >> No, I'll make it for five. >> No, I only need four. Are you sure you won't change your mind about the house? >> I don't think so. >> Thanks for the watch. I really like it. Here it is. Just like I told you. God, ain't she something? Put it back, man. Ain't none of my damn business. >> Hillary Wayne. And baby, I sure would like to wake up next to you in the morning. >> Get your hands off of that. >> You touch your dinner and I'll kill you. >> Damn it. I let him go to meet parole. >> You're crazy, man. >> Come on, man. Get the hell out of here. So, what's this about parole? >> Word has it that you made it. Stay clean and you'll be on the street in a week. >> Yeah, if I don't kill him first. >> You take it easy, Alex. Give me a hand. What for? Give me your hand. >> Damn. Who would you do that for? Every time you think you're about to lose control, you stick yourself with this. And maybe, just maybe, you'll get out of here and never see this place again. [music] Straighten up that All right. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [music] [music] [music] No, daddy. No. Oh, Brian, you scared me. >> It's late. Time to go home. >> I can't. I'm not finished. Turn the light on. >> You've been working too hard lately. That's what happens when you have a deadline. Or have you forgotten? >> No. And I remember working those long nights in New York, [sighs] writing, rewriting, writing again. We pushed every deadline. >> That's because we never agreed. >> Right. Ryan, >> I'm just taking care of my celebrity writer. That's all. You [music] >> always have a line for everything, don't you? >> That's right. >> Just relax. >> Brian. Brian, not here. >> Everybody's gone home. Nobody here but us. Heat. [music] [music] Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music] [panting] >> What the hell is this? Would you take it easy? >> I told you before I don't have time to do a feature of this size. >> Hill. I want >> You're just taking advantage of me because of what happened the other night. I won't do it. >> I believe you two know each other. >> Morning, Miss Wayne. >> Alex, >> he's ready for a new lease on life and we are going to give it to him. >> I don't understand. >> He's your new assistant. >> I [clears throat] don't need an assistant. No offense. Hell Night, you're the one who gave me the idea in the first place. You know, all that stuff about society helping to reform the criminal. Now, think about it. This could make a great cover story. And we do a follow-up on the prison piece using Alex as a model, his adjustment to society, all that kind of thing. You know, the program that you proposed to the governor. Well, he was the perfect example. And after all, I figure we should practice what we preach. Besides, I I already sold the idea to Jameson. You never cease to amaze me. Ah, >> welcome aboard. >> Thank you. Thank you very much. I'm really proud to be working with you, Miss Wayne. And I just want you to know you can count on me for anything, day or night. >> Thank you. You have good taste. Those are some of the best. So, uh, looking for business or pleasure. >> I don't know. Been kind of out of touch for a while. >> Well, either way, uh, you can't go wrong with that little baby. Has auto everything. Practically takes some pictures all by itself. Of course, now I'm a video man myself. Oh, yeah. Great little gadgets. Took one on vacation with my girlfriend. Say, she's a stripper over at the Rumpus Room. Maybe you've seen her. Well, anyway, she got me started on the darn thing. Girls just love to get naked in front of a camera. Mount Rushmore, Grand Canyon. Hell, she even did it on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. We call it the stripping across America collection. Works pretty good, don't it? Perfect. [music] >> This is just some of the mail that's accumulated over the last couple of months. You can sort through it. Most of them are comments from people about my articles. Those aren't the ones I'm interested in. I'm looking for something that will lead to a good story, a bizarre letter, um, a clipping from a local newspaper, anything like that. >> What about fan mail? >> Oh. I do the best I can, but I just don't have time to answer them all. >> Will you mind if I do? >> Why? >> Well, when I was in prison, I I worked in the mail room, and part of my job was to go around and to deliver all the mail. For most of those guys, it was their only link to the real world. They they really looked forward to it. And besides, you know, if it if it weren't for fan mail, I never would have met you. >> I never thought of it that way. I tell you what, you pick the special ones and I'll answer them and um the other ones will send an autograph picture, too. >> Thank you. >> Well, I've got a lunch meeting and then I'm going home to work on my book. So, if you need anything, just call. Okay. >> Wait. >> Oh. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. Alex, even though I think you're working here is a good idea, you're making me >> There's nothing to be afraid of. I'm not going to hurt you. [music] >> I've got to go. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. >> [music] >> It's an angel. I gave it to mom when I was a little girl. I thought as long as she kept it, she would never stop loving me. I haven't seen you here before. >> I'm Miss Wayne's new assistant, Alex Bruitty. >> I'm Vicki. Nice to meet you, Bru. >> It's nice to meet you, too. So, where is she anyway? >> You just missed her. Oh, >> well, I guess I should have called. >> Your accent. >> I like it. [gasps] >> I wish I could say the same thing for my writing coach. My dad's French. I grew up in Paris. >> I've never been to Europe. I'd like to go sometime. Uh, do you want me to give your mom a message? >> No, that's okay. I'm late for my acting class. Well, just tell her I'll stop by. >> Sure. >> Okay. >> You know, I should have guessed Miss Wayne would have a daughter as beautiful as you. >> You don't have a girlfriend, do you, Brit? See you around. >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> I love you, too. How about it, huh? We could go to Petro's for Italian. >> We've been over this before. >> It's only the dinner. >> That's what I mean. I need more than an occasional fling when your hormones kick in. >> Hell, you know I love you. >> No, I don't know you love me. God, what do I have to do to prove it to you? >> Oh, excuse me, >> Alex. Come in. Brian was just leaving. >> Pietro. It's your favorite. >> Are you all right? >> I'm fine. >> Can I get you something? Um, I don't know. A Coke, some coffee. >> Really? I'm okay. >> Okay. Well, I I finished labeling your invitations to your party. >> Good. Well, go ahead and mail them. >> Okay. >> Oh, and um Alex, make sure there's one in there for you, too. >> Thank you. >> Um would you uh like to have lunch with me? >> Um I I can't. I've I've got a meeting downtown. Maybe some other time. >> Okay. Alex, want to talk to you. I've been watching you for a couple of weeks now. >> You're on time. You get your work done. In short, you're doing a fine job. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> It's one little thing that's giving me problems. >> Oh, >> well, well, if it's >> Let's be perfectly honest with each other, shall we? Hillary, she's a beautiful woman. I see the way you look at her. Oh, and frankly, I don't blame you. And all that time was spent in prison. drive any man crazy. >> What are you saying? >> Well, I'm saying I don't like it. Hillary is off limits to you. You understand? And do I really have to remind you how lucky you are to have this job? Most people wouldn't give a con like you the time of day. Well, you're the boss. >> Yeah, right. I knew you'd see it my way. Heat. [music] [music] Heat. >> [panting] >> Now pay attention class. Now, Vicki, you're not concentrating. Now, let yourself go. Trust your instincts. At first, I don't like it. It feels funny. His hand is cold. He tries to reach under my skirt, but I don't let him. That's it. Speak slowly. It keeps kissing me and I decide to let go. I have to. He touches the inside of my thigh. I don't want to go any further, but it keeps pushing. His rough hands feel good against my skin. I'm afraid yet excited. His hands are warmer now and it moves them higher. I'm losing control. He's pulling off [music] my panties. Stop. No. No. Don't stop. Stop. Please stop. [gasps] [sighs] I can't feel his hard breath against my shoulder. My head spinning. Something's not right. Every time he keeps pushing, [music] I scream. I start to cry, but he won't stop. [gasps] Get off me. Get off. Oh, please make him stop. It's over. I can feel it sweat drying on my body. I want to shower, but I can't move. The pain. I hate him. I hate him because I wanted to do it again. Good work, Vicki. I think you can all see what it's going to take to get through this class. You've got to shed all your inhibitions and let your mind run free. Trust yourself and trust your instincts. Let's take a short break. Hi, Brett. >> Hi. I'm impressed. >> You should be. >> You think I could get a copy of the video? The pants. >> How did you know where to find me? >> Give me a little credit. >> Guess that means you don't have a girlfriend. >> Some coffee. >> Sure. Let's go outside. See? >> So, uh, what does your mother think about all this? >> She thinks it's a waste of time. There's no security. I'm too impulsive for her. Like my father, she follows schedules. I like living on the edge. Yeah. Well, I've been known to do a few crazy things myself. Listen, you mind if I ask you uh a personal question? >> Excuse me. >> I had a feeling you were going to ask me anyway, so go ahead. Okay. Your uh monologue. It was so real. >> Did it really happen? You don't have to answer if you don't want to. >> It was under the grand stand at parents day. We were right there with all the parents of others. I remember there was this little boy watching. He never said a word. >> Were you embarrassed? >> No. Funny thing, I enjoyed it. It was like I was performing for him and a star was born. Something like that. Okay, everybody. Let's get back to it. >> Well, I've got to go. >> Can I uh see you again? >> Sure. >> Actress Malo Landensa. Call me. >> [music] [music] >> It's been 2 days. I thought you were going to go. >> Oh, well, I I was. I mean, I am. Your mom has had me so busy getting ready for this party. >> God, you look [music] you look great. >> Thanks. I just stopped by to wish my mom a happy birthday. >> I'm going for an audition to play a hooker. >> Dennis Gwen's playing the lead. If it were up to me, I'd give you the part. >> I wish it were that easy. >> Um, I I haven't seen your mom yet. >> Oh, she'll be out soon. She always has to make a grand entrance. >> Well, I've got to go. Walk me to the door. >> Sure. That was taken on the beach in Hawaii. I had just graduated from the University of Paris. >> You and your mom alone on a trip together. That must have been nice. >> Yeah. Well, I had the choice of that or a new car. >> Judging from what you're driving, I'm sure you've had second thoughts. I see you two have met. >> Well, actually, we met at the magazine. >> You had already left for the day. You know, you two could be sisters. >> Flattery will get you everywhere, especially today. >> Well, I've got to go. >> Come on. Stay until I cut the cake at least. >> I wish I could, but I don't want to blow this one. Happy birthday, Mom. Bye. >> Bye. break a leg. >> Thanks. >> Let me know how it goes. >> Okay. >> So, how come you're not outside with everybody? >> It's been a long time since I've been at a party. >> Hillary, what's keeping you? Everybody's asking. >> Be right there. Are you coming >> in a minute? Okay. I want you to meet Bill Thomas. He's just in from the New York office here. Bill, >> I finally found her. >> Nice to meet you. >> Nice to meet you. >> Happy birthday. >> Hey, [clears throat] you haven't got a drink. Come on. Heat. Heat. >> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Just a second. I'll be right down. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Whoa. Always did love those legs. >> I have to get back. >> You weren't in any hurry to join the party before when you were talking to Alex. >> You've had too much to drink. >> Hey. Hey, help. >> No. >> How about a drink one, huh? Come on. for all time see. >> Stop it. Don't >> I'm serious. >> Stop it. Damn it. Stop it. Leave her alone. >> Alex, don't. >> You checked her. >> Alex. Alex. Stop. Stop it. Stop. >> No. Go. Don't. Stop it. >> E. Not the smartest thing you ever did, fella. I heard a noise. I came in. I saw you in the bed. I know. >> I want you. You're finished. You're fired. >> You look like it's none of your business. >> Alex, come on. Alex, >> look. He's had too much to drink. We just go. >> Go. >> Please. >> Are you sure you're all right? >> I'm fine. Please, just go. >> Guess you're being no assistance. If you ever do that again, I'm calling the police. >> Oh, really? You know, for a minute there, I thought you were beginning to enjoy yourself. [music] >> [music] >> I think the director liked me. Well, I must have done well. They want me for a call back on Friday. >> Great. Maybe we could have dinner sometime this week. We'll celebrate. Yeah. Any day after class? >> Hold on, Mom. >> Okay. >> Who is it? >> It's me, Alex from the magazine. You remember? >> Just a minute. Um, somebody's here. I've got to call. Bye. Don't waste any time, do you? P. >> Hey, what's the deal with the camera? >> Well, I liked your acting so much I decided to make my own tape. Here. >> What's this? >> Go ahead. Open it. >> I want to tape your reaction. Pretty sexy. Pick these at yourself. >> You could say that. Put them on. [laughter] >> Yeah, right. >> I thought you like to live on the edge. >> Don't you trust me? I knew you were going to be different for it. >> Well, what's life without a little adventure there? How about a little mood music? Where's my motivation? >> Pretend it's an audition. Improvise. Can't believe I'm doing this. >> What [music] now? Mr. Director dance for me. [music] [music] [music] That's it. That's it. Use your imagination. >> [music] [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. Heat. [music] [music] Heat. [music] >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> Wait, stop. >> What's wrong? Uh, nothing. I'm sorry. I can't do this. Um, I'm I'm going to have to go. >> Did I do something wrong? >> No. >> No, it's me. I'm sorry. I'll call you. >> Alex. >> What's that? >> My resignation. Oh, no. You can't quit. >> If you can fire people, I can quit. >> No, no, no, no. You You signed a contract. >> Sue me. >> Hell, come on. You're making too much of this. >> How could you do that to Alex? You know it wasn't his fault. >> Oh, please. You saw what happened. The guy's dangerous. >> No, you're dangerous. What the hell do you expect him to do? Stand there while you rip my clothes off? >> You want somebody to hear? >> I don't give a damn. >> He'll That's not the way it happened. Come on. I've had too much to drink. I wasn't in my right mind. >> You're pathetic. >> I expect to see that cover story. [music] Alex, what are you doing here? >> I came by to apologize for the other day. These are for you. What happened between you and Brian was really none of my business. I guess I um overreacted. >> No, you didn't. >> And you didn't have to do this. >> I wanted to. >> Well, I'm sorry for the way things turned out, >> but you did the right thing. >> It wouldn't seem so, would it? May I come in? >> I don't I don't think so. It's late. >> Would you like to see a movie this weekend? >> That wouldn't be a good idea. I hope you understand. >> Oh, sure. Sure. I understand. >> Good. Well, thanks for the flowers. >> You're welcome. >> Good night. >> Good night. Heat. Heat. Hey, [music] hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. [music] >> [music] >> Most directors are absolutely totally ignorant as to what acting is all about. No, no, no. I kid you not. I am absolutely serious. And many of them, especially the young ones, are technical wizards, but without a clue as to motivation. >> So you all have to rely on yourself. The audience will care if you bear your soul and your heart. And remember, tension in your body pulls away from focusing [music] on what you're doing. Try to relax. Be comfortable. >> Hi. Oh, come on, Vicki. Here. >> No. >> I just came by to say I'm sorry for the other night. >> Hey, just stay away from me. >> I know you're mad, but come on. >> Leave me alone. I'm expecting my mother. >> Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Believe me, I know what you're thinking. >> Do you? >> Absolutely. I'd feel the same way if I were you. You know, you meet somebody, one thing leads to another. You're kind of attracted to them. And >> why didn't you tell me about prison? >> At least let me explain. >> No thanks. I read the article. >> No, no, you don't you don't understand. People don't treat you the same once they found out you've been you've been in prison. You know, they they're afraid. They think you're a threat to society. Well, aren't you me? Now, if I had told you all that, you know, that first day in the office, you think you would have gone out with me? >> Probably not. But you still should have told me. Look, I opened up to you, Alex. I trusted you. But you know what hurts the most? You didn't trust me enough to tell me anything. Not even after I made a fool of myself in front of you and that stupid video camera of yours. >> Vicki Wayne. >> Alex, what are you doing here? >> Let's go. Please, Mom. [music] What was that? Nothing. It looked a little bit more serious than nothing. Are you seeing Alex? >> No. Well, then what's going on? >> Mom, I'm not a little girl anymore. >> I know you're not a little girl, but you're still my daughter. >> Then how come you let David kick me out of the house? >> Kick you out? What are you talking about? You were the one that wanted to go live with your father. >> I had to. David kept trying to act like a father to me. Well, I couldn't deal with it. >> Why didn't you talk to me about it? >> You were in love with him. He didn't care. That's not true. I've always cared. Vicki, I've made mistakes with you. I admit it. And baby, I know that you're hurting. I can see it. If I had it to do over again, I would not marry David. and I most certainly wouldn't let you go live with your father. But this is different. Alex is different. He has a history of making mistakes. >> Yeah. And this time I'm the mistake, right? >> No, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is you're worth more. Vicki, please just listen to me for once. I'm trying to keep you from making the worst mistake of your life. That's right. It's my life. I'm so tired of hearing about what's best for me. The only thing you ever cared about was your career and finding another man to sleep with. Find my own right home. Vicki. [music] [music] Bonjour. This is Viko. I'm not in right now, but if you leave a message after the beep, I'll call you back as soon as possible. Mercy or Brian. Heat. [music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Vicki, [music] >> who's there? >> Hi. Looks like you could use some company. >> What are you doing here? Nothing like bubbles to relieve the tension. >> I'm not in the mood for this. I want my key back and I want you to leave. >> Uh, yeah, right. >> Get out. >> All right. Okay. Relax. I'll wait in the bedroom >> and close the door. >> Yeah. >> Damn. >> You sure you wouldn't like me to scrub your back for you? >> Get out. Okay. >> How'd you like your present? >> You never give up, do you? >> Huh? >> It's my trademark. >> Well, it's not going to work this time. >> Uh, a peace offering. >> You must be out of your mind. >> Okay. I made a mistake. I need you. >> I need you out of my house. >> What's the matter with you? >> [music] >> Jameson's been on my case all day long. If I don't get you back, it's my I'm desperate. I'll do anything. >> Then stop bothering me. >> All right. If I do, if I do, will you please come back? >> Give me my key. >> Oh, hell. Here. >> Go. >> Oh, yeah. Well, what about this? I mean, it seems a real real pity to waste it, huh? >> Good night, Brian. >> Is there anything I can do to make you change your mind? Guess not. Wait a minute. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [music] better in win silver with peroxide. >> Vicki, your landlord let me in. I I hope you don't mind. >> No, no, no, no. Of course not. >> You okay? >> Yeah. Yeah. I I just cut myself. It's nothing really. >> Well, let me take a look at it. >> No, it's uh it's nothing. I really I'll be out in a second. >> You sure you're okay? >> I'm fine. Be out in a second. Oh god. I I'm I'm really glad you you came. I've got something for you. I was going to bring it to you. I didn't have chance to wrap it. I thought you'd look really good and red. It's beautiful. >> What's wrong? I shouldn't have left you the way I did. I'm sorry. >> Oh, no. No. That was all my fault. But it doesn't matter now. You're here. That's all that matters. Would you want to stay with me tonight? It's not that easy. My mom's pretty upset. She doesn't want me to see you anymore. What about you? You know, I haven't made love in such a long time. I I don't I don't even know if I can anymore. I'll be back. [music] Heat. [music] [music] Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Hurry. [music] >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] Come >> [music] [music] [music] >> on. Brian, what the hell are you doing? My god. >> [music] >> I borrowed it. I hope you don't mind. >> Alex, Brian's dead. >> Yeah, I know. >> You should have treated you better. >> I don't understand. You >> I had to.
