all right let's talk this is one of those topics
people hardly ever bring up in church or even with close friends but it's real masturbation i've
struggled with it and maybe you have too you start off thinking it's harmless just you in your
own space no one else involved but then the guilt creeps in you start wondering "Am I messing
up is God disappointed in me is this a sin?" That's the big question right is masturbation
a sin according to the Bible and honestly I had to sit with that question for a while i've
read articles watched sermons and prayed about it because I didn't just want a churchy answer i
wanted the truth so here's what I found the Bible doesn't directly mention masturbation not once
there's no verse that says "Thou shalt not touch yourself." Which kind of surprised me but then
I remembered the story of Onan you can find it in Genesis 38:9-10 onan was supposed to marry his
brother's widow and give her a child that was part of their cultural and religious responsibility
back then to continue the family line but instead when it was time to do the deed Onan spilled
his seed on the ground intentionally avoiding pregnancy and God wasn't happy he struck him dead
now for a long time people used this story to say masturbation was sinful but when you really read
the context it's clear God didn't punish him for spilling semen it was the motive the selfishness
the disobedience the refusal to carry out his duty so what God judged wasn't the physical act it
was the heart behind the act and that theme shows up all through scripture jesus was always more
concerned about the heart than just the behavior in Matthew 5:28 he said "Anyone who looks at a
woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." That verse hit me hard
because it showed me that the issue isn't always what my hands are doing it's what my mind and
heart are doing before during and after is it fueled by lust is it taking me away from intimacy
with God am I using it to fill a void I should be bringing to him and then there's 1 Corinthians
6:12 paul says "Everything is permissible for me but not everything is beneficial i will not
be mastered by anything." That's when I had to ask myself is this something I'm in control
of or is it controlling me even if it's not explicitly called a sin has it become a habit
I run to when I'm stressed lonely or bored and then there's that guilt that creeps in afterward
you know what I mean that heavy feeling right after you feel like you've disappointed God you
feel dirty you don't want to pray you don't feel worthy to worship maybe you even avoid reading
your Bible for a while why does that happen i think a lot of it comes down to conscience and
conditioning we've been told over and over good Christians don't do this so the moment we fall it
feels like we've fallen out of grace but here's the truth grace was made for moments like that
romans 8:1 says "There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Conviction is
real god can use it to pull us closer to shine a light on what needs healing but shame that's
not from him shame tells you to run from God conviction invites you to run to him so if
you're feeling ashamed right now I get it maybe you should be but I want you to hear this
god is not standing over you with a hammer he's not shocked by your struggle he sees you he
knows your heart and he still loves you this isn't about perfection it's about relationship
about growth and if this is an area you want to bring under his lordship you're not alone i'm
on that journey too start with honesty talk to God about it no filters ask him to help you see
what's really going on in your heart because half the battle isn't even the act it's the thoughts
that creep in before it those quiet whispers it's just this one time i'm lonely and this will help
me sleep i can't help it i've already messed up might as well keep going it's those thoughts that
need cleansing that's where the real fight starts and they're often rooted in things like lust
porn boredom loneliness even just the need to feel something if you want to grow in this area
ask God to help you tear those roots out maybe that means cutting off some content you follow
being mindful of the music or movies you watch or creating space in your day to just be still with
him so you're not always filling the silence with things that pull you backward take it one day at
a time don't aim for perfection aim for progress and when you fall not if but when fall into grace
not guilt you're not defined by a habit you're not disqualified by a struggle you're growing
and God is patient with you in the process if this video resonated with you or if you've had
